Dumas wins in thrilling fashion
The Dumas Demonettes opened the Class 4A playoffs in thrilling fashion sinking a buzzer beater to stun Lubbock Estacado 42-41 in a Bidistrict clash Monday night in Tulia.
Trailing 41-40 with less than 10 seconds to play,
Dumas’ Sheda Madit missed a shot from the elbow rebounded by teammate Rylee Schacher, who missed from the corner, but Vanessa Martinez was underneath the basket for the put-back bucket giving the Demonettes a 42-41 advantage with one second left. Estacado was unable to get a shot off from the inbound, and Dumas came away with an unbelievable victory.
Martinez’s tallied nine points on the night. Madit led all scorers with 18.
It’s the Demonettes (21-12) first playoff win since 2016, and their first 20-win season in 22 years.
Dumas advances to play Seminole (23-4) in the Area round at a time and place to be determined.
