Dons take season series from Randall

In another close matchup, the Palo Duro Dons escaped Randall by holding off the Raiders for a 59-55 win on Friday night in a key District 3-5A matchup.

The Dons, who won the first meeting 84-81 at home, sweep the season series from the Raiders, and stay all alone in second place behind Amarillo High in the district standings.

Audi Luckey was hot from the perimeter scoring 22 points to lead Palo Duro. Randall sophomore KJ Thomas poured in 21.

The Dons improve to 21-4 overall and 5-1 in district. Randall drops to 15-4, 2-4.

Word picks up 200 career wins

Miami Head Coach Brandon Word picked up his 200th career win last week. Word, in his first season at Miami, kept his Warriors winning on Tuesday with victory No. 201, as Miami defeated McLean 54-46 in a District 1-1A contest.

Collin Gonzales had a great game for the Warriors tallying a team-high 18 points.

Tuesday’s top performers

Canyon’s Brooks Wagner scored a game-high 20 points in a 70-29 downing of Dumas to keep the Eagles unbeaten in District 4-4A.

Lamont Nickelberry of Childress dropped in 23 points that lifted the Bobcats to a gritty road win at Idalou 71-68.

River Road’s Jordan Malone put up 26 points in a tremendous effort that saw the Wildcats beat Dalhart 57-50 in overtime.
