Canadian claims 1-3A title
The Canadian Wildcats gained a measure of revenge of their only district loss earlier this year by holding off the Bushland Falcons 51-48 to claim the outright District 1-3A title Tuesday night in Canadian.
The Falcons nearly erased a 10-point deficit in the final minute, but a Nathan Welch 3-point shot at the buzzer hit the back iron and Canadian was able to come away with a thrilling win.
The Wildcats (14-2 overall) will be the top-seed out of the district with a 13-1 mark. Bushland will be the No. 2-seed at 12-2.
Canadian guard Grant McCook had a big night scoring a team-high 18 points.
Tascosa clinches share of 2-6A title
Tascosa handled Odessa High on Senior Night with an impressive 91-65 blowout victory.
The Rebels (24-6 overall) claim a share of the District 2-6A championship with Odessa Permian (27-3) with 9-1 league marks.
The two teams will flip for the top-seed during Thursday’s district meeting.
Isaiah Johnson and D.K. Alexander each poured in 18 points during Tuesday’s W.
Tuesday’s top performers
West Texas High’s Jonah Villanueva tied a school-record by knocking down nine 3-pointers during the Comanches 65-44 home win against Sunray. The senior was on fire, going 9-of-17 from beyond the arc, finishing with a game-high 35 points.
Kelton’s duo of Mark Herndon and Trace Carey combined for 61 points to help Lions ease past Follett 93-29. Kelton, in only its second year of restarting the varsity program, advances to the Class 1A playoffs for the first time in over 25 years. Herndon tallied a game-high 31 against the Panthers, followed by Carey’s 30.
Division I prospect and Amarillo High sophomore Brendan Hausen racked up 17 points as the Sandies rolled over Coronado 91-41. Hausen’s efforts helped the Sandies to a perfect 16-0 mark in District 3-5A.
Braeden Logue of White Deer used a superb effort with 15 points during a 49-31 win against Hedley, as the Bucks clinched their first district championship since the 2011 season,
