Tascosa stays hot
After key early season injuries, and an 0-2 start to District 3-5A things seemed bleak for the Tascosa Lady Rebels. However, in just the last week, coach Betsy Baughman’s team has found new life putting themselves back in the district playoff chase.
The Lady Rebels used a strong fourth quarter to down Palo Duro 57-43 on Friday for their third straight victory, finishing the first half of league play at 3-2, and 11-14 overall.
Palo Duro (7-20, 0-5) held a brief 39-37 lead after the third only to see Tascosa open the final quarter on an 8-0 run taking full control the rest of the way. Aniyah Brackens was one of three Lady Rebels in double-digits scoring a game-high 19 points. Teammate Za’Miyah Dickson tallied 13, and Daizjia Oages added 12.
Canyon keeps cruising
The Canyon Lady Eagles have easily separated themselves from the rest an otherwise pretty even District 4-4A.
On Friday, Canyon dismantled a much improved Pampa team, 74-15. The No. 2-ranked Lady Eagles (20-5) move to a perfect 5-0 in the league, and are beating the rest of the district by an average margin of 42 points a game.
Canyon has also yet to lose a district contest since the 2018 season.
Jaylee Mess led Canyon with 17 points against the Lady Harvesters, while teammate Tia Glynn had 14.
Friday’s top performers
Mattie Boyd worked for 19 points as the No. 1-ranked Canadian Lady Cats remained unbeaten in District 1-3A by downing Spearman 38-21.
Dalhart’s duo of Jadyn Trusler and Kennedy Green combined for 43 points during an 88-48 win over Highland Park. Trusler scored a team-high 22 points, followed by Green’s 21.
Savanna Sims poured in an impressive 28 points to lead Fort Elliott to a key road win at McLean, 68-38.
