A long awaited victory
In a fun, up-tempo game that went back and forth for all four quarters, the Dalhart Golden Wolves outlasted Lubbock Estacado 72-69 during a thrilling Class 4A bidistrict matchup at the Randall Gym Monday.
Dalhart took a 57-50 lead into the fourth quarter, and held a 72-69 advantage into the closing seconds. Estacado had one last chance but a tying 3-point attempt at the buzzer came up short, and the Golden Wolves walked away with the victory.
Dalhart earns its first playoff win in eight years, as the Golden Wolves improve to 21-11 overall. Dalhart will await the winner of Tuesday’s Clint-Fort Stockton contest in the area round.
Zach Barsalou led the Golden Wolves with 21 points.
It’s playoff time
Nobody amps up their game like Gruver’s Jalin Conyers does when the postseason hits. Sure, Conyers shows up every night for the Greyhounds, but he seems to do his best work when it counts.
The 6-foot-5 senior was hard for Highland Park to handle during Gruver’s 74-52 win in a Class 2A bidistrict clash at the Caprock Activity Center on Monday. Conyers dominated the Hornets thanks to a double-double, pouring in a game-high 31 points to go with 16 boards.
Dating back to 2018, Conyers is now 14-1 in the playoffs.
Not to be outdone, teammate Carter Armes was also red hot knocking in 25 points.
Monday’s top performers
Canadian’s Joshua Culwell tallied a team-high 13 as the Wildcats rolled by Brownfield 70-59 in a Class 3A bidistrict game.
Texline’s Stratton Potter got the Tornadoes off on the right foot for the postseason. Potter racked up 23 points to guide Texline to a convincing 86-35 win against Hart in a Class 1A bidistrict game.
Shea Jernigan and Sean Wright of Shamrock combined for 40 points during a thumping of Kelton, 84-38, Monday night. Jernigan scored a game-high 21, followed by Wright’s 19.
