H.S. Volleyball weekend roundup: Canyon stuns No. 2 Bushland

The Canyon Lady Eagles avenged a season-opening loss in a big way by stunning the No 2-ranked Bushland Lady Falcons from Class 3A on their home floor with a 25-21, 28-26, 12-25, 25-16 victory Saturday.

Bushland had handled Canyon in early August in both teams opening match.

The Lady Eagles came out gunning taking the first set 25-21, then won a very competitive second set 28-26 to take full momentum.

Outside hitters Raylee Bain and Zoey Sparks combined for 27 kills in the win. Bain made a team-high 15 kills, followed by Sparks 15. Sparks also added 7 blocks, while teammate Ryan Roden dished out 42 assists.

Bushland’s Kinley Rudder had a team-best 15 kills with three blocks and three aces.

Canyon improves to 6-2 overall, and now gets set for another big nondistrict match Canyon ISD rival Randall at 7 p.m. at the First United Bank Center in Canyon.

Bushland falls to 10-2, and will play in a triangular with Lubbock Cooper and Amarillo High, starting at 5 p.m. Tuesday at the AHS Activity Center.
