After leading the Clarendon Broncos to arguably their best four-year run-in program history head boys basketball coach Boston Hudson is on the move.
On Friday afternoon Lamesa ISD announced that Hudson has accepted the same role to guide the Golden Tors basketball team into the future.
“It was a difficult decision, Hudson said. “We’ve had a good run here at Clarendon, but it feels like it’s time for a new challenge. Clarendon has been a special place to me. I’ve built a lot of great relationships with the coaches I’ve worked with and the players I’ve been fortunate to coach. I just think this was best for me to take the next step.”
The Canadian graduate, who learned from his mentor and father, Johnny, has put together a more than impressive resume in a short amount of time.
At just 28-years-old, Hudson has been named the National Federation Coach of the Year, the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches Coach of the Year, and a two-time Press Pass Sports Coach of the Year.
Hudson led the Broncos to the school’s only state championships in school history when Clarendon won the UIL Class 2A state championships in 2021-2022.
In over four years at Clarendon under Hudson, the Broncos were 94-18 including a 17-2 mark in the playoffs with those two state titles.
“I think going to Clarendon was just the perfect fit,” Hudson said. “I had a tremendous assistant in Alton Gaines, we had amazing talent, and everyone bought in. We had great players and that buy in my entire time at Clarendon. That’s what made it great.”
Under superintendent David Ritchey Lamesa is making strides toward a new athletic focus. In March, Ritchey hired former Caprock assistant coach and Anna state champion defensive coordinator Efrain Ramos as the new athletic director/ head football coach.
Ramos knew to keep the momentum going, bringing in a coach the caliber of Hudson was the right call.
“We were looking for the right guy and we reached out and it all came together to get him,” Ramos said. “He’s a winner. He’s a Canadian Wildcat growing up and he knows what it takes to be a champion. I know his dad Johnny and Boston is just a guy that gets it and will be perfect for what we need. He’ll be great for us.”
Hudson echoed Ramos’ comment.
“I loved how coach Ramos and Mr. Ritchey treated me during my visits to Lamesa,” Hudson said. “They have a vision I agree with for athletics, and they are going to do things that are necessary to be successful. When you work with people like that it’s a fun place to be a part of.”
