Randall puts up the points in win against Hereford

It was a historic afternoon at the Leslie Broadhurst Gym on Saturday, and a game the late, great coach Broadhurst would have loved to been a part of.

Randall and Hereford put on an offensive exhibition with both teams shooting hot the entire way, but in the end, it was the Raiders being too much for the Whitefaces getting a wild 126-90 victory.

The 126 points is a new school-record for points in a game for Randall (19-5) as the Raids stay unbeaten in District 4-4A at 5-0.

A hot shooting game was led by a hot shooting effort from sophomore guard Christian Smith. Smith was on fire from all over the court against Hereford piling up an incredible 50 points to tie his former teammate KJ Thomas for the school-record for a single game performance.

Smith was lights out from the floor going 10-of-10 from the field and was an eye-popping 9-of-14 from beyond the arc. On top of Smith’s career outing, Tim Perez followed with 29 points of his own and Jaxon Toniolli added 19.

Hereford’s Tyi Duque put together quite the performance of his own leading the Whitefaces with 32 points. Teammate Ethan Gonzales added 19. The Whitefaces drop to 11-12 overall and 2-3 in district.

The Wildcats are off to a 1-0 start to 1-3A play while moving to 5-5 overall. The Falcons fall to 0-1 in district and 7-10 on the year.

After Bushland rallied from a 10-point halftime deficit to tie the game up 42-42 entering the fourth quarter, Canadian was able to pull away down the stretch outscoring the Falcons 16-7 in the final eight minutes.

Cooper Powell and Riggs Pennington were the difference as the duo used their size to combine for 34 points. Powell ended the game with 19 followed by Pennington’s 15. The two combined for 12 points in the fourth quarter alone.

Tagg Thrash led Bushland with 16.
