Big second half soars Canyon past RandallÂ
Canyon swung the momentum in the second half that propelled the Lady Eagles to a big 59-51 win against rival Randall during a key District 4-4A matchup Friday night at the Leslie Broadhurst Gymnasium.
The victory keeps Canyon undefeated in district at 11-0 while pushing the Lady Eagles overall record to 24-4 overall. Randall (19-10) is still in strong position of third place out of District 4-4A at 8-3.
The Lady Raiders came out fast behind sharpshooter Sadie Sanchez taking a 17-13 first quarter lead. The game stayed close in the second quarter with Canyon taking a 31-29 advantage into halftime.
However, it was the third quarter where the Lady Eagles made their move to put this game away. Canyon stepped up on both ends of the floor outscoring Randall 17-7 in the third alone to take control 48-36 and pull away for the win.
Addison Cunningham led Canyon with 16 points. Teammate Jaylee Moss followed with 12 and Kambrie Graser added 11.
Randall’s Sanchez led all scorers with 27 points.
Gruver knocks off Spearman in Hansford County showdownÂ
The Gruver Lady Hounds gained a measure of revenge getting a huge home win against arch-rival Spearman 41-30 during a Hansford County showdown Friday night at the Gruver Gym.
The Lady Hounds did two things with the win. First, Gruver (15-15) took over sole possession of third place of District 1-2A improving to 7-3 in the league. Second, the Lady Hounds knocked rival Spearman (18-5) out of the district lead as the Lynxettes fall to 7-2 in 1-2A a game behind Stratford.
Senior standout Hannon Lankford had a huge outing for the Lady Hounds pouring in 11 points while pulling down 14 rebounds for a double-double. Kinley Callaway added 11 points.
Lanie Witten led Spearman with 11 points.
Friday’s top performers
Kenidee Hayes and Kashlyn Conkin combined for 31 points during Clarendon’s 60-41 win over Wellington. Hayes went for a game-high 17 while Conkin added 14. It was also the 200th career win for Clarendon head coach Korey Conkin.
Bushland’s Berklee Billington was clutch posting a game-high 23 points during a Lady Falcons 46-34 win at Childress.
Berlin Bartlett’s 17 points led the Pampa Lady Harvesters to a 53-49 road win against Hereford.
Panhandle sharpshooter Avery Cathey had a strong shooting night scoring 23 points in an Ettes 71-18 victory against Quanah.
Natalie Wade and Bella Jaime combined for 40 points to keep Farwell unbeaten in District 3-2A with an 82-32 blowout victory against Sudan. Wade poured in a game-high 21 points followed by Jaime’s 19.
Hartley punched a ticket to the playoffs beating Adrian 51-34. Elia Alonso helped make that happen leading the Lady Tigers with 20 points.
Jada Clay tallied 16 points as the Texline Lady Tornadoes swept the season series from Wildorado with a dominating 68-33 win.
Stratford took over sole possession of first place of District 1-2A downing Vega 60-46. Addison Bell played a superb game posting 20 points.
Valley rolled Patton Springs 102-13 to stay unbeaten in district play. Trinity Schlueter and Cecy’Le Pigg totaled 46 points. Schlueter led the team with 24 followed by Pigg’s 22.
Rylee Webb of Kress registered 11 points in a 53-16 win against Springlake-Earth. Those 11 points puts Webb over 1,000 for her career.
