On the diamond: The Pampa Harvesters are off to a tremendous start to district behind thrilling one-run come-from-behind wins against Borger and Hereford last week. Barton played a pivotal role taking the mound against the Whitefaces tossing 6.2 innings, scattering five hits allowing only two earned runs with six strikeouts. Barton also added a hit in the exciting victory.
On the season, the lefty is 1-1 on the year pitching 18 innings with 25 strikeouts carrying a 2.25 ERA. He’s also hitting .308 at the dish with a pair of doubles and 10 RBIs.
Coach Austin Samulowitz: “I couldn’t be prouder of the seniors and juniors so far this year. We had a really tough year last season and this team was determined to come out and be better. Borger was a huge win because that’s a rivalry game. We then found a way to come back and beat Hereford. Brooks was a competitor against Hereford. He trusted his defense and found a way to win. He’s been so much more mature this year and he is throwing with a lot of confidence. I’m proud of him.”
Barton: “I feel like we have had a strong start. We have seven seniors on this team and everyone is coming together. Against Hereford, I just wanted to throw strikes and have the defense make the plays. It was so much fun to get those exciting wins. It’s great to be healthy this year. Last year I didn’t start to the year that way and I just want to keep getting better each time I go out on the hill.”
