Bushland plated 10 unanswered runs to erase an early deficit during a 14-4 run-rule win against River Road at a packed Lady Falcons Softball Complex on Thursday night.
Bushland (23-8 overall) not only avenges its only district loss by River Road, but also takes over sole possession of first place in District 1-3A moving to 6-1. The Lady Wildcats drop to 18-10-1, 5-2.
River Road had an early 3-0 advantage after the first inning before the Lady Falcons started to chip away thanks to the long ball. Kinley Jordan delivered a 2-run homer in the bottom of the second to square things up, 3-3. Jillian Howell then put the Lady Falcons up for good with a solo shot in the bottom of the third. Howell was just getting started. The senior not only won the shot put at the District 1-3A/ 2-3A Area Track and Field meet Thursday morning in Tulia with a new school-record toss of 42-2 3/4, Howell finished her night going 4-for-5 with a two homers with five RBIs.
Brylee Adams settled down after a rough first inning to work a complete game giving up a run on four hits with six K’s.
In the other district game, Dalhart moved into third place downing Canadian 10-3. Rhiana had an RBI, and worked a complete game with 7 K’s.
District 3-5A
Amarillo High clinched a at least a share of the District 3-5A championship with an 8-3 win at Caprock on Thursday evening.
The Lady Sandies (20-11-1) move to a perfect 8-0 in district, and can clinch the outright title with a victory against Palo Duro on Tuesday.
Shortstop Tatem Pendergraft was 2-for-3 to help lead AHS with a solo homer. Teammate Bryce Budd homered and added two RBIs, and Danae drove in three runs.
With the loss, Caprock (15-15) falls to third place at 5-3 in district.
Randall moved into second place thanks to an 8-4 win at home Thursday.
The Lady Raiders move to 6-2 in District 3-5A and are now 18-11-1 overall.
Desiree Hernandez did damage at the plate going 2-for-4 with a double and three RBIs. Berkley Browder pitched 6.1 innings allowing four runs with nine strikeouts to get the win.
Tascosa earned its second win of district play sweeping the season series from Palo Duro with a 22-1 victory.
District 4-4A
The Canyon Lady Eagles clinched at least a share of the District 4-4A championship after beating Borger 10-4 on Thursday.
Canyon (20-9, 8-0) can take its eighth straight outright district title with a win at Dumas on Tuesday.
Leadoff hitter Kaylie Davis set the tone with a 5-hit day at the dish. Davis was 5-for-5 including a double, scored four times, and drove in a run.
Teammate Mikaila Gilliland added a 2-for-5 day knocking in four RBIs. Borger drops to 11-8 overall and 4-4 in district.
Pampa clinched a class 4A playoff spot by blanking Hereford 15-0 on Friday. The Lady Harvesters move to 6-2 in district and 22-6-1 overall. The Lady Whitefaces are now 10-18-1, 2-6. Kynleigh Kirby handcuffed Hereford to two hits over five innings. Kirby also went 2-for-4 with a homer and three RBis at the plate.
Dumas stayed in a third place tie with Borger after routing Perryton 18-2 on Friday. Melaney Granados torched Rangerette pitching going 3-for-4 with a home run, a double and four RBIs. Teammate Amery Casanova added five RBIs with a homer and a double. Dumas (22-10) is 4-4 in district
