Nine Amarillo-area soccer teams remain in UIL playoffs

A total of nine boys and girls Texas Panhandle soccer teams still remain as the second round of the UIL playoffs begin on Tuesday.

In the Class 5A boys, Palo Duro, Amarillo High and Caprock have all advanced to the area round, as well as Pampa in Class 4A.

The Dons, Sandies and Longhorns will all play a triple-header on Tuesday at Grande Communications Stadium in Midland. Caprock (10-7-4) opens the day taking on El Paso Bel Air at noon in an area round clash. Amarillo High (16-4-1) follows against El Paso Del Valle at 2 p.m., and Palo Duro (22-1-2) has the night cap against El Paso Irvin at 6 p.m.

The Harvesters, the District 2-4A champions, are the only Class 4A Amarillo-area boys team still standing. Pampa (18-2-1) will square off with San Angelo Lakeview at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Grande Communications Complex Blue Field in Midland.

On the girls side, Randall won its first gold ball in five years blanking Lubbock Monterey 2-0 in a bidistrict clash on Friday. The Lady Raiders hope to carry that momentum when they play El Paso Burgess at 6 p.m. Tuesday at Midland Greenwood.

Amarillo High is also back in the second round. The Lady Sandies (19-2-2) battle Canutillo at 3 p.m Tuesday on the south turf of Ratliff Stadium in Odessa.

Class 4A saw Canyon, Dumas and Pampa all advance to the area round in dominant fashion. The Lady Eagles (15-8-1) have been soaring of late, and will now play Snyder at 6 p.m. Tuesday at Frenship. The Demonettes (5-10-4) take on San Angelo Lakeview at 5 p.m. Tuesday on the pItch at Lubbock-Cooper. The Lady Harvesters (9-10-4) are set to take on Stephenville at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Grande Communications Complex Blue Field in Midland.
