3 things that happened on Friday night

Thomas drops 50 in Randall’s rout

Sharpshooter K.J. Thomas capped off an unbelievable week with a mind-blowing effort during Randall’s 101-45 thumping of Borger at home on Friday.

Thomas, who blistered Perryton for 35 points on Tuesday, hung half the 101 points for the Raiders with an eye-popping 50 points on Borger. Thomas, who only played 21 minutes, was on fire going 14-of-17 from the floor, 6-of-17 from 3-point range and was 4-for-4 from the line. On top of this magnificent performance, Thomas added six steals.

Farwell rallies to take 3-2A title

Farwell put itself in quite a hole at Panhandle, however, the Steers put a terrible first quarter behind them and rallied for a thrilling 43-40 over the Panthers to clinch the outright District 3-2A title.

Farwell came out ice cold as Panhandle took a commanding 15-0 lead after the first quarter. The Steers were able to regroup in a hurry cutting the deficit to 22-19 by halftime. By the end of the third quarter, Farwell had taken a 33-29 lead and were able to survive. Alec Atkinson scored a team-high 12 points for the Steers, followed by Corey Stancell’s 11.

The victory pushes the Steers to 9-0 in district and 24-4 overall. Panhandle falls to 19-7, 7-2.

Friday’s top performers

Zevan Gonzalez of Hereford came up clutch scoring a team-high 21 points to help the Whitefaces past Perryton 66-63 in overtime. The win punches Hereford’s ticket to the playoffs as the fourth and final seed out of District 4-4A.

Jack Pipkin of Spearman scored a game-high 18 points as the Lynx earned a huge road win at Bushland, 50-48, to tie for the District 1-3A lead.

Lyric Smith was clutch scoring 12 of his game-high 22 points that rallied Clarendon from a 16-point third quarter deficit to stun Wheeler’s upset bid 54-43.
