Amarillo-area boys district basketball scores for January 17th

Hereford hustles past Canyon 

Hereford put itself back in the playoff race thanks to a huge 50-48 home win over Canyon on Friday night during a District 4-4A clash.

With the win, the Whitefaces are now 12-13 overall but more importantly right in the hunt for a District 4-4A playoff spot improving to 3-4. Canyon (12-12) also drops to 3-4 in the league.

The Whitefaces were able to keep Canyon at bay with a slim lead most of the game and held on down the stretch.

Tyi Duque paced Hereford with 19 points with 13 of those coming in the first half. Teammate Brylyn Lopez added 11. Canyon’s Brox Hacker finished with 19 to lead the Eagles.

Friday’s top performers

Kon Deng was on fire the entire way for Holy Cross Catholic Academy in a 98-55 victory against Southcrest Christian. Deng dominated from start to finish scoring an eye-popping 40 points to go with five rebounds and five steals.

Texline’s Rett Wann knocked down nine 3-pointers finishing with 33 points during the Tornadoes blowout win over Pringle-Morse 93-35.

Olton’s Sebastian Sparkman had an incredible performance leading the Mustangs past Farwell 68-59 in a District 3-2A showdown. Sparkman posted 35 points going 8-of-10 from the field and was a stellar 19-of-22 from the free-throw line.

Tayesen Combs and Jaxon Toniolli combined for 36 points to help keep Randall unbeaten in District 4-4A in a 95-30 win over Borger. Combs went for a team-high 19 with Toniolli following with 17.

Raine Walsh dropped in a game-high 26 that gave Childress its first district win over Tulia 57-44 at home Friday. The victory was also the 100th career win for Bobcat head coach Colby Schniederjan.

Darius Jones and Chase Lantelme stepped up in a huge way combining for 26 points to get Stratford a huge home win against Spearman. Both Jones and Lantelme scored 13 points apiece.

Bushland capped off a great week cruising by River Road at home 52-32 on Friday night. Jenner King highlighted the win for the Falcons scoring a game-high 18 points.

Wildorado dropped Adrian 79-30 behind Hunter Corman and his game-high 25 points.

Happy’s CJ Moore had a superb effort posting a game-high 23 points to help the Cowboys knock off Springlake-Earth 59-47.

Wellington’s Brendan Garcia posted a game-high 18 points as the Skyrockets handled Highland Park 65-22.

Tyson McAllister kept Quanah hot dropping in 27 points in an 85-42 win against Memphis.

Collin Alston did his part to keep McLean unbeaten in District 2-1A scoring 26 points in a 68-26 win over Lefors.
