Canadian grounds Bushland
The Canadian Wildcats continue to be the surprise team that’s ventured through District 1-3A unscathed so far through the early going. On Friday night, the Wildcats kept their winning ways going by going on the road and grounding the Bushland Falcons 58-47 at the Falcons Gym.
Upstart Canadian is now alone in first place of 1-3A at 3-0 and 8-3 overall. The Falcons fall to 2-1 and 13-8.
A fast start was the result for the Wildcat win as Canadian built a 31-18 lead by halftime and never looked back. Riggs Pennington and Connor Miller each went for 16 points while Camren Cavalier finished with 13.
Nazareth beats HappyÂ
In a first round battle of the top two teams from District 4-1A, Nazareth defended its home court by taking down Happy 51-39 on Friday night.
The Swifts stay hot moving to 10-11 overall but more importantly 4-0 in the district. The Cowboys drop to 3-1 in the league and 8-13 overall.
Nazareth was able to break open the game in the fourth quarter. Leading 36-32 after three, the Swifts outscored the Cowboys 18-7 in the final frame. Cayden High scored 14 points for Nazareth followed by Kayle Roger’s 10.
Friday’s top performers
Amarillo High’s Zach Brown scored 15 points in a 69-34 rout of Plainview.
Canyon’s Kelson Jones scored 10 of his team-high 18 points in the first quarter that soared the Eagles past Perryton 59-27 on the road.
KJ Thomas of Randall lit up Pampa for 31 points in a 91-62 road win on Friday night.
River Road’s Jaelun Nelson put together a double-double effort with 12 points and 10 boards as the Wildcats beat Dalhart at home 41-34.
Gruver’s Briggs Satterfield had a 22-point night as the Greyhounds defeated Sanford-Fritch 64-55.
Panhandle’s Wes Kuehler poured in 23 points as the Panthers rolled Bovina 69-38.
Follett’s Maddox Miller dropped in 24 points in a 69-17 win over Lefors.
The trio of Logan Mason, Braddek Darnell and Hunter Corman all went for 20 plus points during Wildorado’s 80-42 victory against Pringle-Morse. Mason led the Mustangs with 28 as Darnell put up 22 and Corman chipped in with 20.
