Randall holds off Canyon to stay unbeaten in 4-4A 

Randall was pushed to the test by a gutsy Canyon team, but in the end was able to pull away for a 61-52 district win Friday night at the Joe Lombard Gymnasium.

The Raiders (23-5) stay perfect in district at 9-0 while Canyon (13-13) falls to 4-5 in the league.

As an underdog, the Eagles came out swinging. Trailing 16-8 after one, Canyon clawed its way back into the game trailing 26-23 at the break.

Randall held a four-point lead after three and were finally able to get some breathing room on the way to the nine-point win in the end.

Tayesen Combs was hot the entire night scoring a game-high 22 points for the Raiders. Teammate Jaxon Toniolli went for 14 and Christian Smith added 11. Canyon’s Jordan Webber paced the Eagles with 11 points.

Gruver handles Spearman in Hansford County Showdown 

In front of a packed house at the Gruver Gym, the Greyhounds made a statement on just which team is the best in Hansford County.

Gruver jumped out to a big lead on rival Spearman and never looked back on the way to a commanding 51-27 victory in a District 1-2A matchup Friday night.

The Greyhounds sweep the season series from Spearman while staying unbeaten not only in district at 8-0 but on the year at 12-0. The Lynx (19-6) drop to 5-3 and are now in third place in the league.

Gruver set the tone in the first quarter taking the air of out the Lynx with an 18-5 lead. By halftime, the Greyhounds were in full control up 32-13.

Mason Lankford and Briggs Satterfield were a mismatch for Spearman with the guard duo combining for 29 points. The freshman Lankford tallied a team-high 16 points with Satterfield following with 13.

Friday’s top performers

Ryder McElroy didn’t miss often going for a game-high 35 points as the Farwell Steers cruised by Sudan 78-35. McElroy was 13-of-20 from the field, 3-of-3 from 3-point land and 3-of-3 from the free-throw line in the victory.

West Texas High’s Cayde Winters lit up Sunray for a game-high 30 points as the Comanches downed the Bobcats 62-32.

Joe Clay of Texline helped the Tornadoes stay unbeaten in District 3-1A by posting 26 points in a 70-47 home win over Wildorado.

Palo Duro’s Cuda Clayton dropped in 18 points to help the Dons get by Caprock 69-52.

Kaden Hooker’s team-high 23 points was enough for West Plains to go on the road and beat Perryton 74-61.

Juan Grijalva and Tyi Lopez combined for 32 points during Hereford’s 58-54 key home win against Pampa. Grijalva had a team-high 17 followed by Lopez’s 15.

Alex Warren showed his versatility leading River Road to a key road win at Canadian 41-39. Warren scored a team-high 16 points, pulled down nine rebounds and added three assists.

Caleb Moore’s 20 points was a big help in the Childress Bobcats big home win against Bushland 52-48.

Panhandle sophomore sharpshooter Luke Schmucker knocked down six 3-pointers for a team-high 18 points as the Panthers rolled by Quanah 59-29.

Callin Kane had a big night on the road posting a game-high 23 points during the Wellington Skyrockets 52-48 big road win at Clarendon.

Groom eased by Claude 38-24 with Bryson Shuck scoring a game-high 22 points.
