Tascosa keeps playoff hopes alive upending Palo DuroÂ
With their backs against the wall, the Tascosa Rebels stepped up defending home court getting a much-needed 58-45 win against crosstown rival Palo Duro in a key District 3-5A matchup Friday night at the THS Activity Center.
The victory was huge for the Rebels playoff hopes as Tascosa (18-10 overall) is now 8-4 in the league staying in a fourth-place tie with Lubbock Monterey at 8-5. The Plainsman lost to Lubbock-Cooper 63-56 on Friday night giving the Pirates breathing room in third place at 10-4 in district.
Palo Duro (25-4) remains in second place in District 3-5A at 10-3.
Tascosa took control from the opening tip going up 17-10 after then holding a 26-23 lead at the half. In the second half, the Rebels were up six after three and were able to pull away in the fourth quarter outscoring the Dons 18-11.
Jacorey Fields had a big night for Tascosa scoring a game-high 24 points. Teammate Jaemon Palacios and Cam Goodman each chipped in 10. Palo Duro’s Victor Juarez finished with a team-high 16 points.
Friday’s top performers
West Texas High’s Cayde Winters is unstoppable of late and that continued Friday as the junior lit up Stratford for 23 points in a Comanches 49-37 win.
Caprock’s Ayden Silva had the hot hand against Plainview pouring in 27 points as the Longhorns knocked off the Bulldogs 59-54.
Jordan Webber poured in 17 points knocking down five 3-pointers in a Canyon 74-24 home win against Borger.
Hereford earned a big road win beating Perryton 55-46. Tyi Duque paved the way for the Whitefaces registering a game-best 23 points.
Behind Jenner King’s 17 points, the Bushland Falcons were able to sweep the season series from Dalhart in a 47-40 home victory. The Falcons pull into a first-place tie with the Golden Wolves at 5-2 in District 1-3A.
Canadian’s Connor Miller returned from an injury over the Christmas break and delivered in a much-needed way scoring 14 points while draining four 3-pointers during the Wildcats 40-36 overtime win against Tulia.
Armando Hinojosa led Wellington to a 51-38 victory against Wheeler finishing the game with 20 points.
Booker’s Reydon Rosales and Adrian Rosales combined for 23 points during a 44-27 win over Fort Elliott. Reydon tallied 13 points followed by Adrian’s 10.
Thanks to Shawn Longoria’s 14 points Lefors was able to sneak past Claude 43-37.
Shamrock’s Rhypy Owens went for a team-high 19 points in a key 47-42 home victory against Groom.
