Briggs Satterfield, Gruver football, Soph.

On the field: Satterfield played outstanding in leading the Gruver Greyhounds from a 26-point first half deficit to a thrilling 42-41 victory over District 1-2A Division II rival Sunray last Friday.

The sophomore dual-threat quarterback, who is in his first year as a starting QB, was excellent against the Bobcats, especially in the final two quarters. Satterfield finished the game going 25-of-37 through the air with four touchdown passes and tacked on 55 yards on the ground on 16 carries.

On the season, Satterfield has gone 141-for-209 (67 percent) with 17 touchdown tosses and is second on the team in rushing with 782 yards on 116 carries with 10 more scores.

Coach Kurt Haberthur: “For our program to get a win like that was a huge momentum booster. It helps the belief of what we’re buying into and trying to accomplish. It’s a credit to Briggs and this team and the work they’ve put in. I was proud of Briggs and how he played against Sunray. He settled down at halftime and really did a good job of just running the offense. He knew he’d have protection and he was able to make the smart decisions. He’s come a long way from the beginning of the year. He’s driving into his throws; he’s always coming to me for advice and how to get better and I’m proud of him.”

Satterfield: “It meant a lot to get a win like that. It shows that we’re continuing to come together as a team and we’re not playing like individuals. It was just a fun game to be a part of and we trusted the coaches to help us get that big win. I feel I’ve come a long way from the first of the year. I’m learning to relax in the pocket and limiting my mistakes. My teammate Pratt McLain is such a great leader and I’m learning a lot from him and how to be a leader myself. We just want to keep getting better and winning games.”
