Corey Stancell, Farwell football, Sr.
On the field: Farwell’s captain and four-year standout put on quite the display during the Steers 34-0 shutout over Vega last Friday. Simply put, the hard-nosed Stancell couldn’t be stopped chewing up 218 yards on 21 carries, averaging 10.3 yards per carry, with two touchdowns. Stancell also achieved a special milestone for his illustrious career going over 5,000 career rushing yards as he now sits at 5,207 yards on 608 carries with 75 touchdowns.
Coach Darren Kelley: “Corey is a hard worker. He’s the first one and the last one to leave every day and that hard work pays off. Last Friday he went over 5,000 career rushing yards and he’s over 70 career touchdowns. That’s awesome to see. The best thing about Corey is how he plays. He runs hard on every single play and goes all out leaving everything he has on the field. He has been great for Farwell. He’s gone over 1,000 yards every year, he went over 2,000 yards as a sophomore, and he leads by example. He’s just a great all-around young man and I think he has a bright future playing football.”
Stancell: “We’ve all been playing together since we were little and we’re all close-knit on this team. I think that’s what makes it so fun. We just have great chemistry and we’re always there for each other. We are playing really well right now and I think we have a chance to make this a great season. I just love playing football. It’s my passion. I’ve been playing since I was 5-years old and it means the world to me. It was awesome to go over 5,000 yards it did mean a lot, but I’m just focused on going as far as we can and winning games. That’s what matters to me the most.”
