Haiden Thompson, Miami football, Sr.

On the field: Thompson continued his unbelievable senior season and led the Miami Warriors to not only a 9-0 record on the season, but Miami’s first outright district championship in 11 years.

In a 51-6 rout of McLean last Friday, Thompson torched the Tigers in every way possible. On the offensive side, the senior spread back went 9-of-12 passing for 172 yards with four touchdowns and ran for 131 yards on only five carries with three more scores. Defensively, Thompson made 10 tackles, one for a loss, and kicked four extra-points.

Thompson also passed a special milestone going over 10,000 career yards. Thompson is now at 10,181 total combined yards rushing and passing in his four years.

Coach DJ Howell: “I’m proud of this team. We have a great work ethic and we’ve stayed focused on what’s next. We’re never satisfied, and this team has great attitudes that has a bunch of hard workers. Haiden is one of those hard workers. Haiden has meant everything to this program like the rest of these seniors. He’s just very talented and intelligent. It’s like having another coach on the field. He wants to do everything right on the field and in the classroom. He’s an all-around great athlete and one of the best I’ve ever coached. He’s built the right way.”

Thompson: “We’ve been playing good but we’re always working on getting better. We want to keep getting better and staying hungry and every week we play we want that to be the best game we play. I didn’t realize I had 10,000 yards, especially not after Friday night. It’s going to be nice to look back at one day but I just want this season to pay off. We want to prove to people how good we are and keep getting better.”
