Preston Miller, Canadian track and field, Jr.
On the track: Miller had a stellar day helping the Canadian Wildcat track and field team win the District 1-3A championship with 180 points. Miller left Bushland High School with five gold medals accounting for 60 points on his own. Miller started by setting new personal marks in the triple jump by leaping 43-feet-8 3/4 inches. Miller then won gold in the long jump with a season-best 22-feet-4 inches. In the running finals, Miller swept the individual hurdle championships by clocking a new personal best 39.9 in the 300 hurdles and running a 15.50 in the 110-meter hurdles. If that wasn’t enough, Miller then helped Canadian to a gold as the anchor leg of the mile relay with teammates Trace Mitchell, Easton Galla, and Julian Dominguez, running a season best mark of 3:29.70.
Coach Morgan Brady: “It was a great meet for Preston. He’s been coming into his own and realizing what he can do. He works hard day in and day out and his training has been paying off. He’s the type of young man that has a lot on his plate, but he does all he can to stay in shape and continue to improve. What I love about Preston is he’s very quite but super competitive and when that switch flips he shows the tools that makes him special. He is a great football and basketball player for us, and he’s just getting faster and stronger.”
Miller: “We all did our part as a team to win that district championship. We’re all bought in to the system and we all believe in each other in any sport we play. I’ve been doing my best to train as much as I can and keep dropping my times and getting further on my jumps. What I really love is being a part of the mile relay team. You have to earn that spot at Canadian, and we just want to keep getting better.”
