Reid Macon, West Plains football, So.

On the field: Macon continued his sizzling sophomore season by quarterbacking West Plains to a third straight playoff and into the Class 4A Division II state quarterfinals in only the program’s second year of existence.

During a 42-21 thumping of Monahans in last week’s regional semifinals, Macon was on point going 23-of-28 throwing for 267 yards with three touchdown passes, one of those TDs going for 46-yards to Kyron Wooten.

Through 13 games, Macon has put up extremely superb numbers going 241-of-336 racking up 3,121 passing yards with 35 touchdowns to only five interceptions.

Coach Adam Cummings: “What we’re doing is pretty historic and it speaks highly of the standard these players are setting at West Plains. It also shows us what’s to come of the future. Reid is a part of that present and the future. It’s been fun to watch his process and how the game has slowed down to him. He’s a field general and has a calming presence when he’s on the field with his team. He has shown great confidence and leadership throughout the season and has a certain collectiveness that’s hard to teach. What I love the most is he goes out and executes at a very high level.”

Macon: “What we’re doing is super exciting right now. No one on this team has ever played December football so I think that’s something very special to share. I think the biggest difference for me this season from last year is just seeing the game slow down. I’m trying to do a better job of reading the defense and limiting my mistakes and my goal is just for us to put points on the board however we can. The offensive line deserves a lot of credit as well. Without them, we can make the plays we can.”
