Taurean Johnson, Tascosa football, Sr.
On the field: Johnson was a catalyst to a huge rushing night for the Tascosa Rebels during a convincing 35-13 win over previously unbeaten Saginaw in the UIL Class 5A Division I area round last Friday.
The Rebels chewed up Saginaw for 462 yards rushing in the victory with Johnson doing his part by making the most of six carries finishing the game with 97 yards, averaging 16.1 yards per carry, including a pair of touchdowns.
On the season, Johnson has become a reliable workhorse in a stacked backfield totaling 373 rushing yards on 41 carries with four total touchdowns.
Coach Ken Plunk: “Taurean had a great game for us. It was awesome to see because he’s been getting better, and he has that explosiveness. We made him strictly an offensive player this year and it’s paying off big time. The offense we run has so many small details and he has those down and he’s learned how to get downhill. His blocking is so much better and he’s just a well-rounded player.”
Johnson: “We had a great week of practice. We all came together, and I felt that all led us to the victory. I’ve been trying to improve everywhere I can. Whether it’s practice, the weight room on gamedays. We have great coaches that believe in me and have faith in me and I just wanted to show them what I could do on the field.”
