Wyatt Provence, Randall golf, Sr.
On the course: Provence led the way helping the Randall Raiders to a second-place finish (597) at the Region I-4A golf tournament at Shadow Hills Golf Course in Lubbock, while advancing the Raiders back to the Class 4A state tournament for a third straight season. Thanks to a 36-hole low round total of 71-69 for a 140, Provence was able to capture his first ever individual regional championship. The three-time district champion has been the leader of the Randall golf team for the past three years shooting nine rounds under par this year.
Coach Ben Gilliland: “What I love about Wyatt is he’s just a great person as much as he is a golfer. I can say that about anyone on our team. Wyatt just makes the team better. It was rewarding for us to get back to state and see Wyatt finally win a regional championship. It shows all the hard work and practice time really pay off. He stays calm and patient and doesn’t feel the pressure. He takes care of his grades, and he’s a great son. I’ve loved coaching him.”
Provence: “I’m proud of my mindset and the way I’ve been able to grow and mature as a player. I’ve been able to go low a lot this year. At the regional I just stayed focused and was able to play some really good golf. It was just a rewarding feeling to win that regional championship and enjoy our team getting back to state. That was a goal we’ve set for ourselves. Golf seems like an individual sport but we’re all so close as a team and we all depend on each other. We all make each other better and we’re a family.”
