Canyon clinches share of district title in thrilling fashion; Dumas nabs share of 4-4A title

Canyon and Hereford lived up to the expectation of a true district championship game on an emotional Tuesday night at the Canyon Gym.

After falling to the Lady Whitefaces in four sets the in the first meeting, the Lady Eagles were able to gain a measure of revenge with a thrilling five-set victory (24-26, 25-20, 26-24, 11-25, 15-13) clinching a share of the District 3-4A title with Hereford.

In the fifth set, the match was tense with Canyon leading 14-13, however Canyon was able to claim the victory when Mckenna Coppock served an ace for the game-winning point.

Canyon (26-15, 7-1) and Hereford (29-14, 7-1) each clinch a share of the district championship. As of this writing it was unsure if the two teams would play flip or play seeding game for the No. 1-seed for the upcoming Class 4A playoffs.

Lady Eagles outside hitters, Zoey Sparks and Emma Crenshaw were clutch Tuesday night. Sparks finished with a game-high 22 kills, followed by Crenshaw’s 16 kills.

Libero Bryli Contreras was stellar in her final home game of her career, as the senior made 39 digs.

Hereford’s duo of Darcy Dodd and Tatum Stow were oustanding despite the loss. Dodd and Stow each had 21 kills. Stow added seven blocks.

Dumas clinches share of district crown

Dumas gained its own measure of revenge at home Tuesday night, taking down Pampa, 25-20, 25-22, 15-25, 25-10.

The Demonettes (21-18 overall, 7-1 in district) not only rebound from a loss to Pampa (25-11, 7-1)  in the first meeting, but also clinch a share of the District 4-4A championship.

The two teams will now play for a third time in a seeding game for the top spot at 2 p.m. Saturday in Stinnett.

Dumas’ Brenley Rodriguez, Niki Kent and Brooklyn Sianez each had nine kills against the Lady Harvesters. Teammate Jaden Price had a huge match with 35 digs.

Tascosa is playoff bound 

The Tascosa Lady Rebels snapped a two-game losing skid with a sweep of struggling Odessa High, 25-22, 25-17, 25-17, on Tuesday night at the THS Activity Center.

Tascosa’s victory gives the Lady Rebels a 23-16 overall and 6-4 in District 2-6A. Tascosa ended up in a third place tie with Midland Lee (29-8, 6-4), however, Tascosa lost a flip and will be the No. 4-seed entering the Class 6A playoffs.

Taryn Galt ended her home career in a big way against OHS, as the senior finished with 10 kills. Teammate and fellow senior Kayden Bridges added 23 digs.

Randall goes wire-to-wire

It was a fitting sweep for the No. 3-ranked Randall Lady Raiders, as they closed out their second straight District 3-5A season undefeated Tuesday night at Lubbock Monterey.

Randall picked up the victory against the Lady Plainsman in convincing fashion, 25-14, 25-11, 25-12.

Senior Brianna Ford tallied nine kills, followed by teammate Stevie Reynecke’s four blocks against Monterey.

Randall (37-3 overall) closes out district 16-0 for a second straight season while pushing a three-year league win streak to an astounding 42 straight games dating back to 2017.

Randall, which made it to the UIL Class 5A state tournament last year will face either Abilene Cooper or Wichita Falls Rider in the bidistrict round at a time and place to be determined.

Monterey (34-10, 12-4) plays Abilene Wylie in its bistrict matchup at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday in Snyder.

AHS ends regular season in style

Senior night was kind to Amarillo High thanks to a 25-3, 25-7, 25-8, trouncing of Lubbock High on Tuesday night at the AHS Activity Center.

Lauren Shaffer had a big night in front of the home crowd with nine kills to go with six blocks, while Hannah Shipman dished out 29 assists.

The Lady Sandies finish the regular season at 29-13 overall and 14-2 in District 3-5A. AHS will be the No. 2-seed out of the district during the Class 5A playoffs, and will take on either Wichita Falls Rider or Abilene Cooper in the bidistrict round.

Bushland closes district on fire

Bushland closed out the regular season in impressive fashion by downing Tulia at home on Senior night Tuesday, 25-15, 25-13, 25-12.

The No. 1-ranked Lady Falcons closed out District 1-3A a dominant 8-0, never dropping a set throughout any of their district contest.

Bushland (41-1 overall) ends the regular season on a 35-game win streak, as they get set to open the Class 3A playoffs with Littlefield in the bidistrict round at 6:30 p.m. Monday in Hereford.

Ansley Sims led Bushland against the Lady Hornets with 22 assists and five aces.

Tulia (16-23 overall) falls into a third place tie with Friona at 5-3 in district. Tulia and Friona will have a seeding game for three and four-seed on Saturday at a time and place to be determined.

Highland Park sweeps district play

The No. 6 Highland Park Lady Hornets ran through District 4-2A with an unblemished record after a sweep of Olton on Tuesday.

Highland Park had no issues on the road, easing past the Lady Mustangs, 25-5, 25-15, 25-9.

Nevaeh Rodriguez led the way with nine kills, five digs, four aces and two blocks. Cynarah Rodriguez tallied 13 kills with eight aces.

The Lady Hornets (33-8 overall) end the regular season with a perfect 14-0 district mark, as they’ll now turn their attention to the Class 2A postseason.

Highland Park draws a bye in the bidistrict round, and will meet Fort Stockton in an area round matchup Thursday, Nov. 7, at 6:30 p.m. in Andrews.
