
Amarillo-area soccer teams had very impressive showings at the West Texas A&M Showcase Tournament from Thursday through Saturday.
Class 6A El Paso Montwood went 4-0 during the tournament, however, locally, the Caprock Longhorns were making noise with a 3-0 outing of their own. Caprock (5-1-1 overall) opened the tournament nabbing a 3-2 win over Perryton. On Friday the Longhorns blanked Dumas 4-0, then on Saturday Caprock shutout a solid Pampa squad 2-0 to finish off the tournament undefeated.
Aldo Carrasco was named to the All-Tournament team. Carrasco tallied a hat-trick in the win over Perryton and added another goal with an assist in the victory over Dumas.
Palo Duro went 2-1 in the tournament as prolific striker and University of Rio Grande Valley signee, Jaime Carrillo, was honored with the Golden Boot Award. Carrillo finished with a tournament best seven goals over the weekend.

West Plains Lady Wolves win Lubbock Kickoff Classic
What a start it’s been for the West Plains Lady Wolves in only their first year.
After a strong showing at the West Texas A&M Winter Freeze Tournament last weekend, the Lady Wolves turned their level of play up to go 4-0 and win the Class 4A Division of the Lubbock Kickoff Classic from Thursday to Saturday.
West Plains (9-1 overall) didn’t allow a goal the entire tournament and beat all four opponents by a combined score of 29-0. The Lady Wolves opened the tournament by blanking Lubbock Estacado 5-0, then took to El Paso Riverside 9-0, followed by a rout of Plainview 9-0. It was the second time over the week that West Plains had decimated the Lady Bulldogs after a 12-1 win last Tuesday. West Plains then claimed the championship trophy on Saturday by getting another shutout this time of the Frenship JV, 2-0.
Vanessa Baca had an outstanding performance scoring a total of four goals, including one against the Frenship JV. The junior added five assists over the four wins. Senior forward Sydney Lanigan had two hat-tricks racking up six total goals in victories against El Paso Riverside and Plainview. Teammate Melanie Lujan netted five goals in four games, Kathryn Torres totaled four assists and goalie Bella Hawley was key in the net making seven saves against the Frenship JV.
