H.S Volleyball roundup: Caprock comes up short to Monterey; Bushland extends win streak

It was a battle all the way through, but unfortunately for Caprock they came out on the short end, falling in a hard fought match to No. 8-ranked Lubbock Monterey in four sets Tuesday night at the CHS Activity Center.

The Lady Plainsman held off a stingy Lady Longhorns team 21-25, 25-22, 35-33, 25-16. The third set deflated Caprock after pushing Monterey an extra 10 points before giving up the game.

Caprock has now dropped two straight in District 3-5A, falling to 2-2 in district and 17-11 overall. The Lady Plainsman keep pace with Amarillo High atop the 3-5A lead at 4-0 in district and 24-6 overall.

Monterey’s Nadia Morales had a huge game with 29 digs to go with 16 kills. Taylor Salsky an incredible added 51 assists with 14 digs.

Caprock’s Aubrianna Hernandez had 36 assists, Getse Carrasco finished with 22 digs while Raygan Lopez had 17 kills.

District 3-5A

Randall cans Coronado: Another night, another one in the win column for the No. 3-ranked Randall Lady Raiders.

Randall went on the road and nabbed a sweep of Lubbock Coronado, 25-16, 25-17, 25-23, on Tuesday.

It was a team effort from the Lady Raiders, who move to 24-3 overall and 3-0 in District 3-5A. Kiar Parker and Stevie Reynecke each had six kills, Brianna Ford had nine digs, Torryn Barrientos handed out nine assists and Zoe Parker led the team with four aces.

Lubbock Coronado drops to 16-11 overall and 1-3 in district with the loss.

Amarillo High still unbeaten in 3-5A: The Amarillo High Lady Sandies made a trip down I-27 to Plainview well worth it, sweeping the Lady Bulldogs 25-13, 25-11, 25-20 on Tuesday.

The Lady Sandies are red hot since opening district improving to 4-0 in 3-5A and 18-11 overall. Plainview falls to 18-11, 1-2.

Hannah Shipman dished out the assists with 20, Chelsie Freeman and Currie Marusak each had 10 kills in the win.

Nondistrict

Bushland extends winning ways: Bushland made it 21 straight wins thanks to a sweep of Dalhart, 25-14, 25-10, 25-7, at home Tuesday night.

Not only did the No. 3-ranked Lady Falcons from Class 3A extend an impressive win streak, they also became the first Texas Panhandle team to 30 victories on the year. Bushland, which won 28 games all of last season, is now an eye-opening 30-1 overall under first-year coach Jason Culpepper.

Kinley Rudder was tough to stop knocking down a game-high 16 kills. The duo of Ansley Sims and Taryn Schultz combined for 34 assists. Sims dished out 20 assists, followed by Schultz’s 14.

Bushland def. Dalhart 25-14, 25-10, 25-7

Record:Bushland 30-1.

Top performers:Kinley Rudder 16 kills, 3 aces; Ansley Sims 20; Taryn Schultz 14; Berrilyn Boydston 13 digs.

Hereford beats Tascosa in five-sets: In the match of the night across the Amarillo-area, Hereford held off Tascosa in a five-set nondistrict matchup on Tuesday night in Hereford.

The Lady Whitefaces and Lady Rebels went back and forth with Hereford coming away with the 25-17, 24-26, 25-19, 21-25, 15-4 victory.

The powerful combo of Darcy Dodd and Taytum Stow were tough to stop for Tascosa. Stow, a sophomore drove home 16 kills with eight blocks. Dodd, the senior leader, made 20 kills.

Tascosa was led by senior Taryn Galt’s 19 kills and four blocks. Aaliyah Hardy had an outstanding performance with 54 assists and 14 digs.

Hereford def. Tascosa 25-17, 24-26, 25-19, 21-25, 15-4.

Record: Tascosa 16-10; Hereford 17-13.

Canyon routes Palo Duro: It didn’t take long for the Canyon Lady Eagles to make quick of Palo Duro in a nondistrict match on Tuesday in Canyon.

The Lady Eagles were able to cruise past the Lady Dons with a 25-11, 25-9, 25-9, sweep.

Canyon improves to 17-13 overall while Palo Duro falls to 6-17.

Raylee Bain sparked Canyon with 10 kills, followed by Zoey Sparks with eight. Aubrey Bellino made a game-high 12 kills in the win.
