The Clarendon Broncos baseball and softball teams continue to make a strong push through District 2-2A play with two big wins on Monday and Tuesday.
The Broncos baseball team kept on rolling holding on for an 11-9 victory against Quanah on Monday followed a 22-15 slugfest victory at Lockney on Tuesday.

Clarendon (8-8) is right in the mix atop the district chase at 5-1.
Against the Indians on Monday, Clarendon was able to get a pair of runs in the bottom of the fifth and sixth innings that was the difference. With the game tied 7-7 in the bottom of the fifth, Bryce Williams hit a fielder’s choice but because of a Quanah error that allowed Klay Wilkins and Mason Sims to score giving Clarendon a 9-7 advantage. The Indians were able to tie the game, 9-9, in the top of the sixth, however, the Broncos took the lead for good in the bottom of the sixth on an RBI single by Sims and then Wilkins was able to steal home moments later as Clarendon went up 11-9 to go on for the win.
Wilkins scored three times in the victory. Williams drove in two runs as did Mason Allred.
During Tuesday’s 22-15 win at Lockney, the offenses both saw wild performances. The Longhorns stormed out to an 11-2 lead thanks to an 11-run bottom of the second inning. Clarendon didn’t flinch answering in the top of the third with an incredible 16-run inning.
Highlighting the inning was miscues on the part of Lockney on top of a Shane Haygood two-run single and a Colton Caudle RBI single. Lockney narrowed the gap 18-13 before Clarendon plated four runs over the final two innings to move on for the victory.
Haygood had a big day at the dish going 3-for-6 including a double and four RBIs. Rice added three RBIs going 3-for-4 with a double and a triple and Allred drove in three runs.
The Clarendon Lady Broncos didn’t have quite the dramatics as the baseball team Monday and Tuesday.
The Lady Broncos blanked Quanah 15-0 on Monday and then dominated Lockney 14-2 on Tuesday.
Against Quanah, Kennadie Cummins was outstandings in the circle throwing all three innings of the win allowing only two hits with nine strikeouts. At the plate Kennadie was also 1-for-2 and scored two times. Her twin sister Tandie Cummins chipped in with an RBI triple while Hayden Elam tallied two doubles with three RBIs.
The Lady Broncos stayed hot by locking down Lockney on Tuesday 14-2. In the blowout, Shelby Chistopher and Zane Cruze hit home runs to highlight the victory.
Clarendon (17-5) has clinched a playoff spot and are still in the race for a District 2-2A title at 5-1.
