Booker boys win Region I-1A championshipÂ
Class 1A teams across the Texas Panhandle absolutely dominated during the Region I-1A cross country meet Tuesday at Mae Simmons Park in Lubbock.
A total of five boys and girls’ teams with a host of individuals punching a ticket to the UIL Class 1A state meet in Round Rock.
On the boys’ side, Booker, Boys Ranch and Texline all finished in the top three to qualify.
The Kiowas were the regional champions with 70 points with Boys Ranch coming in second tallying 129 points to edge Texline which finished in third place thanks to 132 points.
Highlighting the meet was Booker state qualifier Adrian Rosales. The senior paced the meet to win the individual title with a time of 16:23.6. O’Donnell’s Eduarda Cedillo was second (17.23.7). Rosales’ teammate Julian Barton came in eighth for a top 10 finish clocking a time of 18:05.9.
The Roughriders had two runners place in the top 10. Michael Holman was fifth with a 17:44.4 followed right by Carter Estaban who was sixth with a 17:55.3.
Will Clay was the lone finisher in the top 10 for the Tornadoes grabbing a 3-mile time of 18:13.1.
Qualifying for state as individuals on the boys’ side was a pair of Happy Cowboys. Brance Ferguson placed fourth overall (17:43.9) as teammate J’Lond Ferguson crossed the line at 10th (18:14).
McLean’s Collin Alston advanced to state as an individual (18:28.6) as did Silverton’s Haygen Lopez (18:36.3), Hartley’s Kendrick Buck (18:40.5) and Adrian’s Jael Acosta (18:59.4).
Texline girls claim Region I-1A championshipÂ
Like the boys race, the Region I-1A girls side saw plenty of Texas Panhandle representation advance to the UIL state cross country meet.
The Texline Lady Tornadoes, and Nazareth Swiftettes both qualified with strong showings.
Texline totaled 101 points that was good enough for a Region I-1A championship. Grady (117) was second, Lazbuddie (119) came in third and Nazareth qualified to state with 147 points.
Texline was paced by Christy Young. The junior placed fifth as an individual to lead the Lady Tornadoes with a time of 13:20.6. Teammate Jada Clay also crossed the finish line in the top 10 registering a 13:29.
Leading Nazareth to state was Madison Brockman who paced her team with a time of 13:40.1.
Qualifying to state as individuals were Silverton’s Melody Rampley. Rampley earned a bronze medal with a third place finishing time of 12:53.3. Claude’s Shaelee Brannon took fourth to advance with a 13:17.9, and Valley’s Hartley Battey placed in the top 10 (13:26.2) to qualify.
The UIL Class 1A boys and girls state cross country meet is set for Saturday, Nov. 2, at Old Settlers Park in Round Rock.
Region I-3AÂ
Dalhart Lady Wolves, Canadian Lady Cats advance to stateÂ
The two top contenders from District 1-3A are headed to the UIL Class 3A state cross country meet.
Both Dalhart and Canadian made that happen Tuesday at Mae Simmons Park.
The Lady Wolves took second overall as a team with 96 points as Holliday was dominant as the regional champion with 31 points.
The Lady Wolves will make their third straight appearance at the state meet in Round Rock. As she has all year, leader Circe Johnson took control for Dalhart placing eighth overall with a time of 12:34.2. Teammates Danna Arriaga (12:55.5) and Lylianah Flores (12:59.1) both finished in the top 20.
The highly decorated McClendon will get one more chance to compete on the big state after runner-up performance for a silver medal Tuesday. McClendon ran a strong race to get second with a time of 11:52.4. That was 16 seconds behind Region I-3A individual champion Kenli Atwood of Holliday (11:36.8).
Arionna Black helped Canadian entering the top 30 (13:17.6).
In the boys’ race, only one local competitor qualified. District 1-3A champion Joseph Dominguez is headed to state as an individual. Dominguez placed 10th clocking a 16:58.3.

Amarillo ISD gets two to stateÂ
Amarillo ISD was able to get a pair of runners to advance to the UIL Class 5A state meet during the Region I-5A race Tuesday.
Palo Duro’s Abdirisak Saidgurhan and Amarillo High’s Kinley Davis each qualified with outstanding races on the always difficult course.
Amarillo High’s Kinley Davis was the lone girls qualifier out of AISD. Davis ran a steady 2-mile race to cross the finish line in 12th place registering a time of 19:48.2
