Bushland breezes past BorgerÂ
Before the weather elements became too much, Bushland had already put its non-district contest against Borger in the bag breezing by Borger 35-0 suspended contest on Friday night at Falcons Stadium.
Due to lightning, the game between Bushland and Borger was called at halftime. While the Falcons (4-0) can consider the game a win, the Bulldogs (2-1) don’t have to take the loss.
In only two quarters, the Bushland offense was clicking posting 265 yards of offense. Quarterback Dawson Jaco was having a superb outing throwing for 141 yards on 11-of-17 passes and ran for three touchdowns on 37 yards. AJ Marquez added a score on 24 yards rushing and Tanner Adams snagged four catches for 72 yards.
Dalhart remains undefeated with win over Friona
Dalhart just keeps on winning. The Golden Wolves were able to play physical football earning a hard-fought 21-7 win over Friona on Friday night at Golden Wolves Stadium.
The Golden Wolves were able to open up a 14-0 halftime lead by getting a score in the first quarter and one in the second. Cole Kelso started the scoring with a 21-yard run that put Dalhart up 7-0 in the opening frame. In the second quarter, the Golden Wolves went up 14-0 thanks to quarterback Kyler Read calling his own number from one-yard out.
Friona cut the deficit at 14-7 in the third until Dalhart was able to answer with another Read three-yard TD run in the fourth that gave the Golden Wolves much needed insurance on the way to the 21-7 victory.
Read was a difference maker on the ground toting the ball 33 times for 147 yards with three a pair of TDs. Kelso added 27 yards with a score.
Dalhart is a perfect 4-0 for the first time since 2006. Friona is still looking for its first win falling to 0-3.
Muleshoe stays unbeaten by routing TuliaÂ
The Muleshoe Mules kept up their frantic offensive pace and played excellent defense getting a 61-7 blow out win at home over Tulia on Friday.
The Mules are off to their best start since 2010 staying unbeaten at 4-0.
Muleshoe’s offense, which has gone over 40 points in all four wins, racked up 421 yards of total offense with 315 of those coming on the ground.
Freshman Josue Sigala continues to shine. Sigala carried the ball only four times but found paydirt on three of those, averaging 35 yards a carry. Teammate Daniel Sianez added a TD on 46 yards rushing. Quarterback Nathan Martens didn’t have to do much but did throw for 106 yards on 4-of-5 passes with three scores.
The Muleshoe defense limited Tulia (1-3) to 201 total yards. Defensive lineman Aaron Morales had a game-high 14 tackles.
Childress rally falls short at Holliday
A 24-point deficit was too much for Childress to overcome as the Bobcats suffered their second straight loss at the hands of Holliday 24-14 on the road Friday night.
The Bobcats drop to 2-2 on the year while the Eagles move to 3-1.
Holliday took a 10-0 lead in the first quarter off a 31-yard field goal by Tyce Whittington and a 64-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Grant Cox to Isaac Villa.
The Eagles pushed that advantage in the third quarter when Cox found Ty Harrison on a 25-yard TD toss followed by a 64-yard scoring pass to Kaison Yow pushing the Holliday lead to 24-0.
Childress didn’t go away trying to rally with two fourth quarter touchdowns. Quarterback Drake Rabe connected to Mark Willis on a 56-yard pitch and catch then Rabe hit a nine-yard TD pass to Isaiah Jalamo, but the comeback would fall short.
The Holliday defense held Childress to 193 total yards and only 16 rushing yards. Rabe was 18-of-32 with two touchdowns and an interception for the Bobcats despite the loss.
