Dumas clinches playoff spot by routing Pampa

Dumas wasted no time in its effort to clinch a playoff spot, as the Demons scored the first 21 points of the game and didn’t let up in rolling over Pampa 52-12 on the road to sew up the district’s fourth playoff seed.

The Demons (4-6, 2-3) jumped out to a 21-0 lead as Z.J. Jara ran for a pair of touchdowns in the first quarter, which turned out to be all the points Dumas needed. In the second quarter, Colton Mills threw three touchdown passes, two to Imanol Marquez, to give the Demons a 42-6 halftime lead.

Mills had a huge game, completing 14-of-19 passes for 389 yards and four touchdowns. Marquez had three catches for 116 yards.

Thanks to those yards, Mills becomes the new record holder for single season passing yards with 2,689. Christian Davalos had a tremendous game in a losing effort for Pampa (I2-8, 0-5), running for 170 yards and a touchdown on 18 carries.

Randall routs Canyon

In a battle between Canyon ISD teams, Randall and Canyon both showed why their current status for the season remained in place at Happy State Bank Stadium.

Already guaranteed the district’s No. 2 playoff seed, Randall showed that form in blasting Canyon 43-9.

The Raiders are 9-1 and 4-1 in district, and head into the playoffs next week against El Paso Ysleta.

Canyon needed to win and get a Dumas loss to make the playoffs, but neither happened. The Eagles finished the season 5-5 and 1-4.

Randall showed its usual offensive balance as quarterback Kaison Benton completed 16-of-20 passes for 205 yards and two touchdowns. Collin Miller was Benton’s favorite target, catching six passes for 114 yards and a touchdown.

Dylan Ray led Randall’s running attack with 112 yards and a touchdown on 13 carries. Roberto Chavira ran for 96 yards and a touchdown on six carries.

Perryton crushes Borger to reach playoffs

Perryton’s offense was up to the task at home against Borger, as the Rangers rolled over the Bulldogs 41-7 to clinch a playoff spot.

The win makes Perryton (4-6, 2-2) the No. 2 seed in the playoffs. Borger (3-7, 1-3) will be the No. 4 seed despite the loss.

Cooper Schilling remained a strong dual threat at quarterback for the Rangers, as he completed 13-of-21 for 172 yards and two touchdowns and ran for 83 yards and two touchdowns on 16 carries. Gordo Estrada ran for 132 yards and two touchdowns on nine carries.

Palo Duro falls to Abilene Cooper, misses playoffs

The promising start to the season for Palo Duro didn’t get the Dons into the playoffs.
Needing a win on the road in a winner take all scenario to clinch the district’s fourth and final playoff spot, Palo Duro never got caught up against Abilene Cooper on Friday night.
Cooper took over the game in the second quarter and rolled over the Dons 44-27 to end Palo Duro’s season.

The Dons finished the year 5-5 and 2-4 in district.

Cooper (4-6, 3-3) closed the first half with 14 straight points and led 28-13 at halftime. Palo Duro never got closer than eight points after that.

Quarterback Julian Reese had a big game for the Dons, completing 20-of-27 passes for 234 yards and two touchdowns. Cooper’s Austin Cummins threw for three touchdowns and ran for another.

In another Class 5A game, Caprock saw its season come to a rough end in District 2-5A Division I as it was blanked 49-0 by No. 1 playoff seed Lubbock Monterey. Caprock finished the season 2-8 and 1-5 in district.
