Brenna Francis, Silverton track and field, Sr.
On the track: Francis left her legacy at the UIL Class 1A state track and field meet on Saturday at Mike A. Myers Stadium in Austin.
Silverton’s standout in multiple sports made the most of her last outing on the big stage bringing home two gold medals as well as a silver medal.
Francis scored 28 of the Lady Owls 32 points and it started by winning the long jump by popping off a leap of 17-2 1/2.
She then went on to win the triple jump despite hurting her leg at 35-7 and despite the leg bothering her in the night session, Francis was still able to capture silver in the 100-meter hurdle race with a time of 15.93.
Francis ends her career making three appearances at the state meet winning two golds, two silvers and two bronze medals.
Head coach Kevin Hurn: “You don’t realize while you’re coaching but we’ve been spoiled to have someone like Brenna. It’s how she infects the entire program in such a positive way. She’s in 4-H, basketball, track, she does it all and she helps the younger athletes to make them better. I’m so proud of her. She has been huge for our program and has taking jumping to another level. She’s the best jumper I’ve ever coached, and we’ll all miss her so much.”
Francis: “After a couple of days it’s really been sinking in and feeling so good to know what I was able to accomplish at state. I left it all out there and I felt inspired. I was hurt and sore, but it felt great to go out and prove myself. I hope it shows that going out there and doing your best for the right reasons is what it is all about.”
