Gracie Sutton, Canyon golf, Jr.
On the course: Sutton’s fantastic performance at the District 4-4A golf tournament last week at the Ross Rogers Golf COmplifted the Canyon Lady Eagles to a fourth straight team title. The Lady Eagles won district with a two-day score of 645. Sutton also won the individual championship firing a 78 on the WildHorse layout, followed by a 77 on the Mustang side for a two-day total of 155. Sutton, a junior, is now a two-time individual district champion.
Coach Ricky Guy: “What I’m really impressed with about Gracie is she’s so mentally focused every time she goes out on the golf course. She hit her driver well and stayed out of trouble and she’s putting really well. She plays at a fast pace and gets into a really good rhythm. She had two really good days and had great scores on those tough courses at Ross Rogers. I also love that she’s always encouraging and she’s a great teammate. You don’t find many young people like Gracie.”
Sutton: “It was a great feeling to win another district championship with my teammates. We knew we had to go out and play our best and everyone stepped up. It was also a tremendous feeling to win the individual championship for the second time. I’ve put in the work so I’m glad to see it pay off. But more importantly I just love playing for this team. It’s hard when you come out of basketball and pick the clubs back up but we all make each other better in practice and push each other to be better.”
