LilyAnn Shannon, Bushland volleyball, Sr.
On the court: Shannon has come into her own this senior season especially during this tremendous playoff run that the tradition-rich Bushland Lady Falcons are currently soaring through.
In two wins last week against Llano and Peaster, Shannon put together two more impressive outings. In the regional semifinal win against Llano, Shannon knocked down 11 kills. She then followed that up with 10 more kills against Peaster during a regional final sweep.
On the season, Shannon has totaled 286 kills for a Bushland team that will compete for the UIL Class 3A Division I state championship Friday.
Coach Jason Culpepper: “LilyAnn is a silent killer type player. She’s not a lot of flash but she gets the job done. She has become a great middle for us and has improved so much just from a year ago. Her swing is so much better, and her confidence has really come along. She can put the ball a lot of different places and though she is quiet she does a great job of leading by example.”
Shannon: “I feel I’ve improved a lot from last year. We are fortunate to have the coaching staff we have and that has made us all better. I’m always working to improve however I can. Whether it’s with my swing or my confidence and I feel I’m a lot better at both this season. I am finally breaking out of my shell, and I just want to help this team win a state championship.”
