Ta’Leeyah Glynn, Canyon basketball, Sr.
On the court: Glynn played excellent basketball helping the Canyon Lady Eagles to a perfect week and a tournament championship on Saturday. The senior point guard started her week by scoring eight points in a 39-24 win over Nazareth. She followed that effort by leading Canyon to a 4-0 mark at the Fantasy of Lights Tournament in Wichita Falls to win the big school division championship. The Lady Eagles defeated Fort Worth Dunbar 61-36, Weatherford 66-22, Van Alstyne 45-23, and Palo Duro 63-34 to claim the tournament championship. Glynn averaged 11.8 points per contest and two steals over the four wins to earn Tournament MVP honors. Her best effort came against Palo Duro where Glynn scored 18 points.
Coach Tate Lombard: “She provided us with a spark in different segments of those games and helped us get off to a hot start in the championship game. Ta’Leeyah got some big steals that stretched lead out and played really good defense all weekend. She usually guards the other team point guard and does a good job of having a presence. She is more consistent this year, but her offense is better and she’s seeing the game really well. Her offense is really opening up other teammates. She’s a team captain and a great student. She’s matured and taken a big role in our senior leadership.”
Glynn: “It was an exciting weekend for the team and I. We played a lot of games and had a really good tournament. We competed well and I think it was good for our team to get that tournament championship. We are getting better by the week and the chemistry is coming together. I think personally my game is continuing to get better. I’m more confident I’m not fouling as much as last year and I’m a lot more confident.”
