H.S. Volleyball roundup: Highland Park sweeps rival Fritch in 4-2A showdown; Tascosa falls

Highland Park flexed its muscle getting a sweep of rival Sanford-Fritch in a District 4-2A showdown of state-ranked teams on Tuesday night at the Hornets Gym.

Highland Park took the sweep by a score of 25-19, 25-19, 25-18.

The No. 7 Lady Hornets take sole command of the district lead at 5-0, and are now 24-8 overall.

The No. 11 Lady Eagles drop to 4-1 in district and 19-5 overall.

Senior Cynarah Rodriguez was the catalyst for Highland Park, pounding down 12 kills while dishing out eight assists.

Cassidy DeShong added six kills and 12 assists on the night.

Zoe Fry led Sanford-Fritch with 10 kills and two blocks.

Highland Park def. Sanford-Fritch, 25-19 25-19 25-18.

Tascosa drops district opener

The Tascosa Lady Rebels lost a heartbreaking five-set match at Midland High by a, 25-21, 18-25, 19-25, 25-19, 11-15, score on Tuesday night in Midland.

The Lady Rebels fall to 17-13 overall and 0-1 in District 2-6A.

Tascosa won the first game, dropped the next two, but were able to force a fifth set before falling 15-11.

Senior Taryn Galt had 18 kills in defeat while Aaliyah Hard passes out 51 assists.

Midland High def. Tascosa 25-21, 18-25, 19-25, 25-19, 11-15.

Records: Tascosa 17-13, 0-1. Midland High 15-14, 1-0.

District 3-5A

Morrison hits 200 wins

With Lubbock Cooper’s sweep of Plainview on Tuesday night, Dalhart graduate and Lady Pirates head coach Karli Morrison earned the 200th win of her career. Morrison, a 2006 graduate of Dalhart, has coached for 10 years with stops at Levelland and Lubbock Cooper.

Palo Duro gets first district win

Palo Duro won its first District 3-5A match of the season, knocking off Lubbock High, 29-27 25-18 19-25 25-17 at home Tuesday.

The victory puts the Lady Dons at 7-20 overall and 1-7 in district.

Caprock loses key district match

Caprock was unable to make up any ground in the District 3-5A chase dropping a home match to Lubbock Coronado 25-17, 25-19, 25-21.

The Lady Longhorns drop to 3-5 in district and 18-14 overall. The Lady Mustangs move to 3-4 in District 3-5A and 18-12.

District 1-3A

Bushland keeps on rolling

It was a quick night of work for the No. 1-ranked Bushland Lady Falcons, cruising past Friona in the District 1-3A opener, 25-2, 25-12, 25-3.

The Lady Falcons have won 25 straight and are now 34-1 overall and 1-0 in district play.

Friona falls to 8-23, 0-1.

Addyson Tiffin led Bushland with 10 kills. Kinley Rudder added 6 kills while Ansley sims had 19 assists and 2 aces.

Nondistrict

Canyon levels Borger

In the final nondistrict game on the schedule, Canyon handled Borger with a 25-10, 25-15, 25-9 sweep on Tuesday.

The Lady Eagles will head into District 3-4A play on Saturday with a 19-14 record.

Carlee Henderson made 16 kills, followed by Lauren Bell’s 20 assists.

Hereford rolls Pampa

The Hereford Lady Whitefaces wrapped up its nondistrict schedule by sweeping Pampa, 25-13, 25-10 at home Tuesday.

Rainey Aven and Darcy Dodd combined for 17 kills in the quick match.

Hereford opens district Saturday with a 21-13 mark.

Dumas defeats Liberal, Kan.

Dumas traveled out of state to Kansas to close out its nondistrict schedule on Tuesday.

The Demonettes made the long trip worth it, beating Liberal, 25-11, 17-25, 25-18, 25-22.

Dumas (14-17) was led by Abree Elsheimer’s 12 kills and Brenley Rodriguez’s 12 blocks.
