District 4-4A dominates in emphatic fashion 

Dumas, West Plains, Randall and Pampa took no mercy on opponents during the area round of the playoffs making quite the statement over the weekend.

With all four teams getting one-sided sweeps against El Paso Bowie, El Paso Riverside, San Elizario and Clint, District 4-4A finished the weekend outscoring those opponents by an incredible 135-8.

Let’s start with the district champion Dumas Demonettes. In a two-game sweep of Bowie, Dumas won the Friday’s first game 30-0 followed by the second game 15-0 on Saturday to combine for a 45-0 shutout in the series.

Aaliyah Chairez and Vida Fierro ate up Bowie pitching in both games. Chairez was a combined 6-for-7 in the series with a homer, a double and a triple totaling six RBIs. Fierro countered going 4-for-5 in both wins with a pair of doubles and a triple to tack on six RBIs of her own.

Randall also had zero issue taking down Clint 24-0 in game one and 13-1 in game two for a combined 37-1 series win.

Lauren Garcia had a stellar weekend at the plate for the Lady Raiders going a perfect 4-for-4 with a homer, a double to drive in a combined six runs.

Randall (20-17) advances to meet up with rival Dumas (30-6) at a time and place to be determined in the regional quarterfinal round.

On the other side of the bracket, the district blowouts kept on coming.

West Plains handled El Paso Riverside thanks to a 13-4 victory in game one followed by a 5-1 win in game two to get the sweep.

Pitcher Jaylen Kaps did her job in the circle helping the Lady Wolves advance. Kaps threw all 14 innings of the series finishing with two wins while racking up 22 strikeouts.

Not to be outdone, Pampa made it look easy against with two lopsided victories against San Elizario. The Lady Harvesters blasted San Elizario in the first game 15-0, then were able to complete the sweep thanks to a 20-2 victory.

Mckinley Daniels led the charge in game one going 3-for-3 with a homer and two RBIs. In the game 2, it was Cambree Dyer with the big bat drilling two homers with seven total RBIs.

West Plains (20-15-1) now faces Pampa (18-12) in a best-of-three series in the regional quarterfinals.

Game one is set for 5 p.m. Thursday at West Plains with game two being played at 5 p.m. Friday at Pampa. If game three is necessary, the rubber match is set for noon, Saturday at Amarillo High.

Class 3A

Bushland beats up Presidio 

It was another day with another lopsided win for the Bushland Lady Falcons.

Playing in one-game series on Friday night against Presidio at Midland Greenwood, the Lady Falcons soared to an 11-0 victory in the Class 3A area round.

Through the first two rounds of the postseason Bushland has been on cruise control outscoring both Lubbock Roosevelt and Presidio by a 23-0 count.

Bushland (26-5-1) is now headed to the regional quarterfinals for a matchup with 2-3A champion Shallowater (27-9) at a date and time to be determined.

Senior Brylee Adams handcuffed Presidio hitters through five scoreless innings allowing two hits with eight K’s. Senior Abby Howell delivered a homer finishing with two RBIs and Charley Spinks went 1-for-2 with a double and two runs driven in.

River Road sweeps Alpine

The River Road Lady Wildcats found a way to complete the sweep of Alpine in dramatic fashion on Saturday during a Class 3A area round clash at Big Spring.

The Lady Wildcats opened Friday with a convincing 15-0 win, however, had to battle back for a come-from-behind walk-off victory in game two 6-5.

River Road trailed 5-4 heading into its last at-bat on Saturday but were able to rally. With Gracie Talbott on first, Channing Johnson laid down a bunt and started hustling down the first base line. Alpine had an overthrow to first trying to get Johnson out and that error allowed Talbott to score tying the game up 5-5.

Moments later, Elizabeth Motes drove a single to right field scoring Johnson, giving the Lady Wildcats the thrilling series clinching win.

Ava Sharp was clutch as well going 2-for-3 on Saturday with a homer, a double and two RBIs. Ashlynn Ferris was the MVP of Friday’s opener for River Road hitting two home runs to finish the contest with seven RBIs.

The Lady Wildcats (23-9) advance to play Lamesa (17-15-1) in the regional quarterfinals at a time and place to be determined.
