West Texas A&M stayed a perfect 10-0 at the First United Bank Center thanks to a 74-41 thumping of Lone Star Conference foe Western New Mexico on Thursday night.

The No. 19-ranked Lady Buffs (19-3 overall) run their current win streak to 11 straight games, while also gaining some breathing room in its division standings, as No. 4 Texas A&M-Commerce downed No. 8 Lubbock Christian, 59-54, Thursday.

The Lady Buffs, who are 12-1 in conference, hold a two-game lead over LCU, which fell to

10-3 in the LSC and 16-3 overall.

WT dominated every phase of Thursday’s contest against the Lady Mustangs (7-11, 4-10). The Lady Buffs never trailed, leading for 39 plus minutes, upping a lead to as many as 40 points in the third quarter thanks to a 23-0 run.

WT dominated in the paint outscoring WNM 40-18, and doubled the Lady Mustangs on the boards by a 53-26 margin.

“We wanted to take advantage of our size in the paint,” WT coach Kristen Mattio said. “Our post players Tiana Parker and Abby Spurgin did a great job finishing. We got them looks, we pushed the pace, and everyone contributed.”

WNM didn’t have an answer for sophomore post player Braylyn Dollar. Dollar ended her huge night with her fourth double-double of the season. The Lubbock Monterey graduate was automatic from the floor, going 10-of-12 shooting for a game-high 21 points, and punished the Lady Mustangs inside with a career-high 14 rebounds. Dollar also tacked on four assists.

“Braylyn did a good job of opposing her will early in the game,” Mattio said. “She got going with offense rebounds, and that got her in rhythm. I was proud of her effort.”

Delaney Nix added 12 points, knocking down four, 3-point buckets on six attempts. Spurgin added 10 points with six rebounds and three blocks.

Inside the box score

WT finished the game going 30-of-64 (46.9%) from the floor including 9-of-22 (40.9%) from behind the arc and 5-of-10 (50%) from the free throw line with 20 assists, four steals and nine blocks.

The Mustangs went 17-of-59 (28.8%) from the field in the game including 5-of-20 (25%) from deep and 2-of-6 (33.3%) from the charity stripe.
