The Texas High School Volleyball season came to a close, and it was another fantastic year for the Texas Panhandle.
Here’s a look at the 2019 Press Pass Sports Volleyball team.
First-Team
Zoe Parker, Randall, Sr. OH
The three-year varsity player turned into the captain for a Randall team that made its first state title appearance since 2009. Parker, a TGCA All-State selection, played in all 47 games this season, totaling 309 kills with 342 digs, 80 aces and 30 blocks.
Taryn Galt, Tascosa, Sr. OH
Galt, a four-year varsity player, was the glue that helped the Lady Rebels to the Class 6A area round this season. The District 2-6A Outside Hitter of the Year and TGCA All-state tallied 624 kills, 4.34 kills per set with 130 digs in 2019.
Taytum Stowe, Hereford, Soph. MB
It was a breakout year for the 6-foot-3 sophomore who helped lead Hereford to a 35-15 record, and the first UIL state tournament appearance since 2009. Stow, a District 3-4A Co-Offensive Player of the Year and TGCA All-State selection, was dominating at the net all season for the Lady Whitefaces, finishing with 155 blocks and 485 kills.
Addyson Tiffin, Bushland, Sr. MB
Tiffin thrived under first-year coach Jason Culpepper, helping the Lady Falcons to a 46-2 mark and their first UIL state tournament appearance since 2016. The Co-District 1-3A MVP and TGCA All-State selection her season with 289 kills, a hitting percentage of .395 with 55 blocks.
Bryli Contreras, Canyon, Sr. Libero
There may not be a player more valuable to their program than Contreras was to Canyon the past four years. The Stephen F. Austin State signee and TGCA All-State selection played in 168 career matches, was a part of two district titles and helped Canyon to consecutive regional tournament appearances. This season Contreras made 726 digs to go with 41 aces and was named District 3-4A Libero of the Year.
Hannah Shipman, Amarillo High, Sr. Setter
Shipman wrapped up a stellar three-year varsity career, leading a tradition-rich Amarillo High team to a 33-14 record that included a Region I-5A Tournament finals appearance. Shipman, an Angelo State signee, was a TGCA All-State selection, as well as the District 3-5A Setter of the Year with 1,176 assists, 306 digs to go with 200 kills.
Newcomer of the Year Bebe Irwin, Tascosa, Soph. MB
Irwin’s first year on varsity was a successful one for Tascosa. The sophomore became a key player for the Lady Rebels, putting down 255 kills, 66 blocks with 41 digs.
Second-Team
Darcy Dodd, Hereford, Sr. OH
The heart and soul of the Lady Whitefaces led the charge for a magical Hereford run to the UIL Class 4A state tournament. The District 3-4A MVP and TGCA all-state selection ended a stellar season with 510 kills, 175 digs, 53 blocks and 40 aces.
Cynarah Rodriguez, Highland Park, Sr. OH
The versatile senior could play anywhere coach Tara Salmon asked. Rodriquez, a TGCA BSwas the glue to a Lady Hornets team that made a third straight regional tourney appearance. The District 4-2A Co-Player of the Year knocked down 448 kills with 421 assists, 248 digs to go with 116 aces.
Zoe Fry, Sanford-Fritch, Senior, MB
Fry will go down as arguably the best player to ever play at Sanford-Fritch, and one of the Amarillo-area’s best. The four-year starter played in 140 career matches under her father and head coach Troy Fry. The District 4-2A Co-Player of the Year and TGCA All-State selection ended a fantastic 2019 campaign with 567 kills, 124 blocks, 121 digs and 74 aces.
Chelsie Freeman, Amarillo High, Sr. MB
The 6-foot-1 senior continued to get stronger as the season went on. Freeman, an Angelo State commit, was a big part of a Lady Sandies team that advanced to the regional finals. She ended her season racking up 310 kills, with 79 and 77 digs. Freeman was named as the District 3-5A Offensive Player of the Year.
Berrilyn Boydston, Bushland, Sr. Libero
It’s hard to find a libero as scrappy as Boydston was for a Lady Falcons team that advanced to the UIL state tournament for the first time since 2016. Boydston, the District 1-3A Libero of the Year, ended her season with 624 digs and 42 aces.
Ansley Sims, Bushland, Sr. Setter
Sims was a leader for Bushland, helping lead the Lady Falcons to a 46-2 record and a state tournament appearance in 2019. The District 1-3A Co-MVP, was also named the Region I-3A MVP for her performances against Brock and Boyd. Sims totaled 855 assists on the season with 235 kills and 124 digs.
