Tascosa graduate and Purdue freshman King Doerue had the biggest performance of his young career for the Boilermakers on Saturday afternoon.
Though the Boilermakers didn’t win their Big 10 matchup against the Minnesota Golden Gophers, falling 38-31, Doerue supplied a surplus of offense.
The true freshman was a workhorse out of the backfield, carrying the ball a career-high 20 times for 94 yards. Doerue also made four catches for 32 yards.
Doerue’s first career collegiate score came on an 8-yard run in the third quarter. He found pay-dirt again on a 2-yard touchdown, then showed his versatility catching a 13-yard TD toss from quarterback Jack Plummer.
On the season, Doerue, who helped lead Tascosa to the Class 6A Division II state semifinals for the first time in school history last year, 37 carries for 131 yards on the year.
