Texas Panhandle boys soccer teams have strong showing at WTAMU Winter Showcase

The calendar has rolled into 2025 which means the beginning of the high school soccer season.

With that said, West Texas A&M played host to its annual Winter Showcase featuring boys’ teams across the Texas Panhandle.

Five teams out of District 3-4A competed – Borger, Canyon, Pampa, Randall and West Plains – over the weekend showing what’s to come with district starting Jan 21.

West Plains and Pampa had very strong outings. West Plains went 3-0 but did not face eventual tournament champion El Paso Andress.

Pampa was 3-1 during the tournament with its only loss coming at the hands of Andress.

The Wolves had two players selected to the All-Tournament team in Jayson Lamons and Francisco Silvestre. The Harvesters had Ervin Torres honored on the All-Tournament squad.

West Plains and Pampa are schedule to meet in a district matchup on Jan. 24.

The Randall Raiders had a very nice weekend as well finishing with a 3-1 record including two clean sheets Luke Bingham and Jake Avalos both made the All-Tournament team.

Randall begins district play against Perryton at home on Jan. 21.

Canyon was able to go 2-0-2 at the WTAMU Showcase with wins against Midland Greenwood and Lubbock-Cooper Liberty. Brice Chaffin earned All-Tournament honors for the Eagles.

Also, Borger went 1-3 during the showcase beating Greenwood. Carlos Medina had four assists for the Bulldogs over the four games.

Andress was the champions of the WTAMU Showcase finishing a perfect 4-0.

The Andress offense was impressive scoring 25 goals led by Brendan Acosta and Roberto Corona both scoring seven goals apiece.

The Eagles defense was strong as well with three clean sheets surrendering a total of two goals creating an astounding 23-point positive goal differential.
