
Class 5A playoffs
WICHITA FALLS – The Amarillo High Lady Sandies are one step away from the programs first ever regional championship.
The Lady Sandies collected two gold balls this past week beating El Paso High 5-2 in the UIL Class 5A Division I area round Tuesday and then blanked Birdville 2-0 during a regional semifinal Friday in Wichita Falls.
AHS (20-2-1) will now play in the Region I-5A Division I championship for the first time since the 2021 season when the Lady Sandies take on Colleyville Heritage (15-2-1) at 6 p.m. Tuesday in Burkburnett.
During the area round win against El Paso High (18-2-1), AHS was able to put together a huge second half. Sofia Pepper opened the scoring with her first goal coming at the 14-minute mark putting the Lady Sandies up 1-0.

The Lady Sandies took on El Paso High (18-2-1) in the Area Round, Tuesday, at Astound Broadband Stadium, in Midland, and came away with a 5-2 win, after a huge second half. With the game tied 1-1 at the half, AHS caught fire in the second half with Chloe Godinez scoring in the opening minutes putting AHS up 2-1. Sophia Hernandez then put two goals in net that gave AHS a 4-1 lead it’d never relinquish.
Against Birdville on Friday, Saylor Carroll broke a scoreless tie at the 13-minute mark putting AHS up 1-0. Teammate Madeline Rankin then scored in the 78th minute to give the Lady Sandies much-needed insurance.
Class 5A quick hits
The Tascosa Lady Rebels saw an incredible season come to an end. After beating El Paso Chapin 3-2 in the UIL Class 5A Division I area round, the Lady Rebels came up short 4-2 to Colleyville Heritage in the regional semifinal match. The Lady Rebels end a great year at 12-6-4. Maren Peck had a great outing with three goals in the two games.
The Caprock Longhorns fell to El Paso El Dorado in the UIL boys Class 5A Division I area round. The Longhorns end the season at 15-5-2.
Palo Duro rallied late but fell short 2-1 to El Paso Burges in the UIL Class 5A Division II area round. The Dons see the season end at 12-6-4.

The Randall Lady Raiders are headed to the regional championship game for the third time in program history.
Randall defeated San Elizario 3-1 in the UIL Class 4A Division II area round earlier in the week, then held off Benbrook 2-1 in a thrilling regional semifinal.
Randall (20-5-1) is one game away from a first state semifinal for the first time since 2010. First, the Lady Raiders have to play Godley (16-4) in the Region I-4A Division II championship at 5 p.m. on Monday at Wichita Falls Memorial Stadium.

In the win against San Elizario, Kyndal Mcclain led a comeback netting a pair of goals in the second half. Ryann Davis added another score as Randall went on for the 3-1 victory.
Against Benbrook, Randall had to overcome a shaky start. That was until Brooke French took advantage scoring off a rebound tying the game up 1-1 heading into halftime. In the second half, Randall’s Jess Ledesma floated a ball over the Benbrook goalie in the opening minute that factored as the eventual game-winning goal.
Class 4A quick hits
In what was supposed to be a rebuilding year, West Plains advanced to the UIL Class 4A Division I regional semifinals for the first time in school history. The Lady Wolves defeated El Paso Ysleta 2-0 in the area round to make that happen. West Plains eventually fell to Stephenville in penalty kicks after a scoreless regulation. Mya Bartlett had both goals against Ysleta and Kat Torres netted the lone goal in the penalty kick session for West Plains. The Lady Wolves ended an incredible year at 17-4-3.
