
There were Texas Panhandle athletes that put together spectacular performances on Wednesday through Saturday during the 96th running of the Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays at Mike A. Myers Stadium in Austin.
Saturday saw a couple of school records fall starting in the morning hours. On the boys’ side, Lathan Lewter paced the field to clock an eye-opening time of 9:04.69 to win the high school division of the 3200-meter race while setting the new school-record in the process. Lewter’s school-record time is now the third fastest in the entire state.

Lewter’s teammate Ryan Fernandez had a strong showing placing sixth in the 1600-meter race (4:15.83).
Speaking of records, Canyon’s Addyson Bristow isn’t a stranger to making history. Bristow set a new school-record Saturday morning by running a 10:14.99 in the 3200-meter race for a bronze medal finish. On top of that performance, Bristow was part of the Lady Eagles mile relay team of Brooklyn Kinsey, Reese Wilson and Sydnee Winfrey that ran a season-best time of 3:55.54 to get third place. The Lady Eagles distance relay team of Avery Brown, Kinsey, Wilson and Bristow also earned a silver medal Thursday with a 12:01.94.

In the field events, the talk was all about Childress senior and University of Oregon commit Taylor Wiseman. Wiseman took home gold after winning the discus event on Friday uncorking a throw of 157-4 to edge Valerie Hunt of Monahans (157-3). Wiseman recently set a new Texas Panhandle record in the discus launching a 172-6 at the Throw Town Relays in Ramona, Oklahoma last week. Wiseman ended the Texas Relays with a strong outing in the shot-put tying for fourth with a 46-4.

Panhandle Panthers Relays
The Panhandle Ettes had to hold off West Plains but were able to get the team championship on Friday at home during the Panhandle Panthers Relays.
The Ettes totaled 125.5 points to edge the Lady Wolves, who finished with 121 points.
The Panhandle relay teams were a huge difference. The sprint relay team of Ell Robinson, Carly Land, Lexi Durst and Leah Land set the tone early running a 48.76 to win a gold medal. The mile relay team of Robinson, Carly Land, Addison McCoid and Leah Land then book ended the meet for the team title by racing to a season-best 3:58.67.
Carly went on to claim two more gold medals winning the 300-meter hurdles race with a 45.15 and won the pole vault event clearing 9-6.
Vega’s Jaz Martinez was outstanding in winning a pair of gold medals. Martinez’s first gold came in the high jump clearing 5-6, and she then won the 100-meter hurdles with a 15.87. River Road’s Taylor Collins also had a strong meet winning the 200-meter race sprinting to a 25.46 and getting silver in the 400-meter run (1:00.63).
In boys’ action, Plainview won the team title with 150 points. Borger’s Tyler Brooks took home two gold medals in the 100-meter dash (11.16) and the 200-meter sprint (22.42). Panhandle’s Caiden Crook was also impressive clearing 6-6 1/2 to win the high jump event.

Childress Bobcat Relays
The Canadian Wildcat track and field teams made it a clean sweep of team titles at the Childress Bobcats Relays on Thursday afternoon.
The Lady Cats totaled up 208.5 points to dominate the meet. As usual, long distance runner Konnar McClendon put on quite the show. McClendon ran a time of 11:41 for the 3200-meter title then paced the field in the 1600-meter race with a winning time of 5:22.91.
The Canadian boys team won with 166.5 point. Camden Cook highlighted the meet getting a victory in the 400-meter race with a 50.40 and was a part of the sprint relay that won with a time of 44 seconds. Teammate Joseph Dominguez chipped in winning the 1600-meter race (4:35.29) and the 3200-meter run (9:58).
DeMarcus Lewis of Wellington was flat out impressive. Lewis helped the 800-meter relay team win clocking a time of 1:30.17. Lewis was back at it later helping the mile relay to the gold medal stand with a time of 3:23.99.
Happy’s Hayes Bressler made school history Thursday. Bressler had quite the day in the pole vault event. After setting the new school record at 14-10 earlier in the event, Bressler then broke his own record moments later clearing 15-feet. What was really unique is that Bressler broke his father Ben’s record of 14-9 in 1999.

Sunray Bobcats Relays
Gruver is having quite the athletic season in all sports and that carried into Thursday during the Sunray Bobcats Relays.
The Greyhounds and Lady Hounds both took home team titles and did it in dominant fashion. The Lady Hounds finished with 170 points led by senior Tyerin Aranda. Aranda started her day winning the long jump leaping 17-7 1/2. During the running portion, Aranda won gold three more times sweeping both hurdle events. Aranda clocked a 14.84 to win the 100-meter hurdles and then ran a 47.55 for a gold in the 3000-meter hurdles. Her final gold medal came as part of the mile relay team that had a 4:18.74.
West Texas High’s Emorie McNabb broke two school records while bringing home three gold medals in the sprints. McNabb set a new record blazing a time of 12.19 to win the 100-meter dash. The second school record fell in the 400-meter race when McNabb ran a 1:00.15. Her third gold medal was in the 200-meter sprint with a time of 25.68.
On the boys’ side, Gruver racked up 163 points. Freshman Mason Lankford won the 110-meter hurdles with a 15.50 and took silver in the 300-meter hurdles (42.27) and the high jump (6-feet). Booker standout Adrian Rosales cleaned house in the long-distance races. Rosales started the morning with a 10:21.87 in the 3200-meter run. In the afternoon, Rosales won his second goal in the 800-meter run with a 2:05.38, and ended the meet getting gold in the 1600-meter event (10:21.87).
Sunray’s Kolten Simmons also impressed winning both the 100-meter dash (10.88) and the 200-meter run (22.34).
Hereford Whiteface Relays
Dalhart was the entire story at the Hereford Whiteface Relays on Friday.
The Golden Wolves won the boys side with 162 points with the Lady Wolves stacking up 178 points.
Reese Jenkins had a career day for the Lady Wolves. Jenkins set a new school record clearing 12-feet-7 inches to win the pole vault event on her third and final attempt. That’s the best vault in the Texas Panhandle this season. Jenkins new record beats Sydney King’s record from 2015 by one inch. Jenkins was far from done. In the running portion, Jenkins won the 100-meter dash with a 12.54, then won gold as a part of the sprint relay team (49.32) and the 800-meter relay team (1:48.97).
The Golden Wolves were also able to set a new school record. The 800-meter relay team of Caden Bird, Hunter Trusler, Brett Alvar and Angel Avalos ran a record time of 1:28.49 breaking a previous school mark set in 2017. Bird went on to help the sprint relay to gold with a 42.35, he then won the 400-meter race with a 50.91 and won the long jump (21-9).
Randall had a pair of athletes make some individual highlights. Tenera Gray continued her great year winning all three jumping events. Gray cleared 6-feet for the high jump title, then went 18-1 1/2 for the long jump gold and popped off a 36-11 3/4 for the triple jump win. Teammate Rebel Rea won all three long distance events. Rea ran a time of 12:18 for the 3200-meter title, a 2:26.29 for the gold in the 800-meter run and finished with a 5:37.18 to claim gold in the 1600-meter race.
