Panhandle pummels Ballinger

The Panhandle Ettes put their foot on the gas early and never let up which resulted in a dominating 85-16 win against Ballinger in the UIL Class 2A Division I regional semifinals Monday night at Lubbock Monterey.

This was quite the opposite result for the Ettes, who were pushed to the limit by Abernathy in a very good regional quarterfinal Friday pulling out the 53-47 victory. Panhandle (31-3) advances to the Division I championship where they will now play Ozona (29-7) at 6 p.m. Thursday night at Post High School. Ozona advanced by beating New Deal in its respective semifinal Monday night.

Farwell edges Christoval

For a second straight year, the Farwell Lady Blue are headed to the regional finals.

It wasn’t easy by any means, however, Farwell edged a very good Christoval team 50-47 down the stretch to pull out the win during a UIL Class 2A Division II regional semifinal in Andrews on Monday night.

This was a close contest throughout with the Lady Blue leading 27-23 at halftime. In the third quarter, not much changed with Farwell taking a 37-35 advantage into the final frame and eventually hung on down the stretch.

Makylee Baldwin played a huge role for Farwell in the win posting a team-high 21 points with nine of those coming in the fourth quarter. Teammate Landri Richey added nine and Bella Jaime had eight.

The Lady Blue push their overall record to 27-8 overall and will now await Tuesday’s Clarendon-Roscoe winner in the regional final.

Nazareth runs past Sands

As expected, the Nazareth Swiftettes took care of business in a big way running away from Sands thanks to a 56-21 victory in the Class 1A Division II semifinals Monday night at Lubbock Roosevelt High School.

Nazareth (26-9) has advanced back to familiar territory and the regional finals where the Swiftettes await Tuesday’s Texline-Whitharral winner.

Nazareth had no problems with Sands opening a 20-7 lead after the opening stanza and building that advantage to 38-12 by halftime.

Brooklyn Birkenfeld was on fire most of the night for Nazareth scoring 19 of her team-high 23 in the first half. Teammate Lexi Ramaekers chipped in with 14 points.

Denton Ryan takes down Amarillo High

Amarillo High saw its season come to a disappointing ending falling to Denton Ryan 62-57 in a very good UIL Class 5A Division I regional semifinal matchup at Vernon High School on Monday night.

The Lady Sandies see a tremendous season come to an end at 30-6 overall. Denton Ryan (29-7) is headed to the regional championship game to meet Tuesday’s Tascosa-Aledo winner.

The Lady Raiders set the tone with a strong first quarter taking an 18-10 lead. AHS fight and clawed back into the game cutting the deficit 33-27 at the break. In the third, the Lady Sandies trimmed the margin to 46-44 but in the end Ryan was able to prevail.

Jamyla Anderson was a tough matchup for the AHS defense as she led Ryan with 24 points. Senior standouts Bella Edwards and Ca’Nia Mitchell did everything they could for the Lady Sandies. Edwards scored a team-high 17 with Mitchell adding 12.
