Dumas at Pampa
The game: Dumas Demons (8-0, 1-0) at Pampa Harvesters (7-1, 1-0).
When: 7 p.m.
Where: Harvester Field.
Last meeting: Dumas beat Pampa, 28-24, last year.
The matchup: Both Dumas and Pampa are coming off
impressive wins in its District 3-4A Division I openers. With such a competitive district, now the Demons and Harvesters are set for another showdown with major playoff-seeding implications.
The Demons defense maybe one of the best in the state. Dumas has pitched four shutouts, allowing only 12.1 points a game.
On the other hand, the Harvesters offense — led by QB and reigning Built Ford Tough Player of the Week Tucker Bridwell (2,527 pass yards, 24 TDs) — is explosive, scoring 37.2 ppg.
It’s not hard to say Friday night will be entertaining.
Panhandle at West Texas High
The game: Panhandle (7-1, 3-0) at West Texas High (6-2, 3-0).
When: 7 p.m. Friday.
Where: Comanches Stadium.
Last meeting: Panhandle defeated WT High, 45-33, last year.
The matchup: Fans of these communities have been eagerly waiting on this showdown since fall workouts in August. These two teams are not only the class of District 1-2A Division I, but are also two of the top teams in Region I-2A.
Anyone that likes offense will want to buy a ticket. Quarterback Avian Cruz and the Comanches average 43 points a game, while Panhandle QB Wesley Jones and the Panthers are putting up 56.3 ppg.
Monterey at Caprock
The game: Lubbock Monterey Plainsman (3-5, 1-3) at Caprock Longhorns (2-6, 2-2).
When: 7:30 p.m. Friday.
Where: Dick Bivins Stadium.
Last meeting: Caprock beat Monterey, 59-41, last year.
The matchup: The postseason has started for the Caprock Longhorns, and the scenario is simple. If Caprock beats Monterey, they’ll clinch a Class 5A playoff spot. But a loss, and it could be on to basketball season for the Longhorns.
It’s no secret both teams can score, boasting explosive offensive weapons. But in order for Caprock to win this game they’ll have to rely on linebacker Isaiah Carrasco and the defense to force turnovers, on top of getting big stops.
W.F. Rider at Randall
The game: W.F. Rider Raiders (4-4, 2-1) at Randall Raiders (3-5, 2-1).
When: 7 p.m. Friday.
Where: Kimbrough Memorial Stadium.
Last meeting: Rider beat Randall, 38-7, in a Class 5A DII regional playoff game last year.
The matchup: Randall has resurrected itself from the dead with back-to-back wins over Plainview and Abilene Wylie. Running back Brayden Beck has help bolster the offense with a strong ground game, but the Raiders will need more consistency from quarterback JaKobe Norman. In four losses, the Rider defense has given up over 35 points a game and 400 plus yards. Randall will need to continue its stellar defensive play going against a strong offense led by QB Jacob Rodriguez.
