This one’s all about position, as neither team can snag a district championship or a No. 1 seed and are just looking for the highest seeding they can get. Dumas will get the No. 2 seed with a victory. Both teams are coming off close games but with markedly different results, as Dumas beat Canyon with a last-second field goal and Hereford lost to Randall in overtime. Expect another close one here, but Dumas has momentum from last week and will carry it into this one. … Dumas 24, Hereford 21
Pampa (2-7, 0-3) at Canyon (7-2, 2-1), 7 p.m.
These two teams couldn’t enter this game from more opposite directions. Pampa is eliminated from the playoffs and playing for pride and experience while Canyon will get the No. 1 playoff seed and a share of the district championship with a win. The Eagles are still smarting from their heartbreaking loss to Dumas, but the combination of getting the top playoff seed, a share of the district title, their final home game and taking momentum into the playoffs should be more than enough incentive to lift them to victory. … Canyon 41, Pampa 7

West Plains (8-1, 3-0) at Borger (4-5, 1-2), 7 p.m.
Not even positioning is at stake in this one, as West Plains is guaranteed the district’s No. 1 seed and Borger is the No. 4 seed. West Plains has been an upstart for two years, but maybe not much longer as success is now expected from the Wolves. After an open week, their concern will have to be knocking off some rust. Borger carries the momentum from going back to the playoffs after a rough couple of years. That, and their final home game, could give the Bulldogs some juice. Perryton (3-6, 2-1) at Seminole (8-1, 2-1), 7 p.m.
In terms of (there’s that word again) positioning, this is as clear-cut as it gets. The winner will be the No. 2 seed and the loser No. 3, making this more like a playoff game. Aside from a loss to West Plains, Seminole has looked fairly invincible. Perryton, though, has found some offense with the move of Julian Cervantes from quarterback to receiver, where he’s been a huge threat on the perimeter. That makes for a potentially high-scoring game, but Seminole has a little more depth and versatility in the end. … Seminole 35, Perryton 24

However, if the Mules can win by 10 or more it’s Muleshoe earning that second spot. If Muleshoe wins by nine to seven points, Shallowater gets second. Confused yet? The Wildcats are playing for nothing but pride while the Mustangs have a lot more at stake. Shally must beat River Road and then hope that Muleshoe wins but only by nine to seven points against Dalhart so the Mustangs can claim second place. The de facto “Outlaw Bowl” pits the top two ranked teams among independents in the state of Texas. On the surface, the records lead you to believe this should be a very tight game. However, Booker’s schedule has been much tougher with all four losses against playoff teams with three of those ranked in the top 10 of the state.
