THURSDAY’S GAMES
District 2-5A Division I
Lubbock Monterey (5-4, 4-1) at Caprock (2-7, 1-4), 7 p.m., Dick Bivins Stadium
Monterey is in the playoffs but has a major prize still to be claimed if it wins: THE No. 1 seed in 2-5A DI. Caprock will grind this final game out, but Monterey’s offense is the real deal. … Monterey 45, Caprock 21.
District 2-4A Division I
Hereford (7-2, 3-1) at West Plains (6-3, 4-0), 7 p.m. Happy State Bank Stadium
This is the unofficial district championship game, which could decide the top two spots in the district 24 hours before the end of the regular season. A West Plains win would give the Wolves the outright district championship, and a Hereford win by 11 or more points would do the same for the Whitefaces. Any other outcome and seeding would need to wait a day. Both teams have highly capable offenses led by junior quarterbacks Reid Macon of West Plains and Hereford’s Kalub Ramirez. It should be entertaining if nothing else, but homefield and a stronger defense are what give the Wolves the edge, and an unbeaten district title in their first year in 4A DI. … West Plains 45, Hereford 28.
District 1-2A Division II
Vega (2-6, 0-3) at Bovina (2-7, 0-3), 7 p.m.
This game has very high stakes. The winner is on to the playoffs as the No. 4-seed while the loser heads to basketball. … Bovina 29, Vega 22.
District 2-1A Division II
Paducah (6-2, 2-1) at Hedley (1-8, 1-2), 7:30 p.m.
After reeling from their loss to Motley County, the Dragons will be breathing fire and ready to finish this one off in a hurry. … Paducah 66, Hedley 12.
FRIDAY’S GAMES
District 2-5A Division I
Amarillo High (5-3, 4-1) vs. Tascosa (4-5, 3-2), 7 p.m., Dick Bivins Stadium
This historic city rivalry celebrates the 68th meeting on a wet, chilly night. Both teams are in the playoffs. AHS shares the district title with a win. Tascosa secures the coveted No. 3 seed in this district with a win (a favorable playoff road awaits the third seed). Man, AHS has an offense routinely cranking out points in high volume. Tascosa’s defense has struggled this year. So the question here is can the Tascosa D rise to the occasion and hold the Sandies under 35? Not pretty at times but an instant classic. … Tascosa 38, AHS 35.
Lubbock High (3-6, 0-5) vs. Lubbock Coronado (2-7, 1-4), 7 p.m., Lowrey Field at Plains Capital Park, Lubbock
Playing for Lubbock city pride in this one with the playoffs gone for both teams. … Coronado 48, Lubbock 14.
District 2-5A Division II
Palo Duro (5-4, 2-3) at Abilene Cooper (3-6, 2-3), 7 p.m., Shotwell Stadium, Abilene
Humongous game here with the winner in the playoffs and the loser out of the playoffs. I’m not backing down even tho the Dons didn’t handle their first road trip this season to Abilene well at all. I predicted PD would end the season on a three-game win streak and it’s going to happen. Prayers up and God Bless PD senior Aaren Woods. … Palo Duro 28, Cooper 21.
Abilene Wylie (7-1, 5-0) at Plainview (3-6, 1-4), 7 p.m., Greg Sherwood Memorial Stadium, Plainview
Absolutely zero playoff implications in this one. Wylie is the No. 1 seed. Plainview is out of the playoffs. Hmmm. Plainview will throw the kitchen sink at Wylie but come up short. … Wylie 38, Plainview 28.
Wichita Fallas Memorial at Wichita Falls Legacy, 7 p.m., Memorial Stadium, Wichita Falls
The first-ever meeting between these two new high schools which were SO creative in coming up with Memorial and Legacy as names! It’s all playoff-bound Memorial in meeting number one. … Memorial 45, Legacy 21.

Season: 37-7 (.840)
District 2-4A Division I
Canyon (5-4, 1-3) vs. Randall (8-1, 3-1) 7 p.m. Friday, Happy State Bank Stadium
There’s no district title on the line here in this annual Canyon ISD matchup, but there’s plenty of importance here nonetheless. Canyon is in desperation mode, needing a win and a Dumas loss to Pampa to get the district’s fourth and final playoff spot. Randall is guaranteed no worse than a No. 3 seed but no better than a No. 2 seed, which the Raiders will get with a win and/or a Hereford loss. Randall bounced back from a loss to West Plains by routing Pampa last week to clinch a playoff berth, while Canyon fell to Hereford after giving up the final 16 points in the fourth quarter. The Raiders have been more consistent, so they’re the obvious favorite. … Randall 28, Canyon 15.
Dumas (3-6, 1-3) at Pampa (2-7. 0-4). 7 p.m.
For Dumas, the assignment is easy and self-explanatory. The Demons will earn the district’s fourth and final playoff seed with a victory. They’re eliminated, though, with a loss and a Canyon win. Pampa is mathematically alive, but the Harvesters have to win by at least 15 and Canyon has to lose to force a coin flip for the fourth seed. The math is easy. Dumas has been far more consistent offensively this season while Pampa has struggled to put points on the board. The Harvesters have some incentive closing the regular season at home, but the Demons are too strong and can smell the playoff berth at the finish line. … Dumas 34, Pampa 7.
District 2-4A Division II
Borger (3-6, 1-2) at Perryton (3-6, 1-2). 7 p.m.
This one’s pretty easy to understand. The winner will get the No. 2 seed in the district, while the loser still has a shot at the No. 4 seed depending on what happens in the Lubbock-Cooper Liberty vs. Levelland game. These teams have a lot in common looking at their records and lack of consistency for much of the season. Perryton has a more dynamic offense led by dual threat quarterback Cooper Schilling. That, and homefield advantage to close the regular season gives the Rangers the edge. … Perryton 26, Borger 20.
Lubbock-Cooper Liberty (2-7, 1-2) at Levelland (5-4, 1-2), 7 p.m.
Stop us if you’ve heard this one before, but the winner will get the No. 2 seed in the district, while the loser still has a shot at the No. 4 seed depending on what happens in the Borger-Perryton game. Get the district theme to end the season? This figures to be a close game as well, with Levelland carrying in some momentum after beating Borger with a strong defensive effort last week. Homefield advantage and experience should carry Levelland into the playoffs, but barely. … Levelland 21, Liberty 20.

Dalhart (7-2, 1-1) at Shallowater (7-2, 2-0), 7 p.m.
The Golden Wolves received great news earlier in the week that standout QB Kyler Read has been cleared from a severe leg injury back in early September. Read, who will return for the bi-district round, gives this team a ton of motivation heading into the postseason. With that said, this is an extremely talented Shallowater squad that is vying for an outright district title. … Shallowater 35, Dalhart 20.
District 1-3A Division II
Canadian (6-3, 3-0) at Childress (5-4, 3-0), 7 p.m.
Two arch-rivals once again playing for the outright district championship at historic Charlie Johnston Field at Fair Park Stadium. Childress will be ready fresh off a bye, but the Wildcats are finding their groove. … Canadian 30, Childress 21.
Dimmitt (2-7, 0-3) at Friona (1-8, 1-2), 7 p.m.
A week ago, it didn’t seem like these two teams would be playing for much. But now, the Chieftains can clinch third place, and Dimmitt can still get in the playoffs if they beat Friona by eight or more points. … Friona 40, Dimmitt 16.
District 2-3A Division II
Idalou (7-2, 3-0) at Muleshoe (6-3, 2-1), 7 p.m.
It’s been a rough go of late for a Muleshoe team getting hit by injuries. We’ll have to see if the Mules have enough to spoil Idalou’s chance at an outright league title. … Idalou 40, Muleshoe 20.

Former Clarendon head coach Clint Conkin has done an amazing job turning the Tigers around. If Slaton beats Roosevelt, they are guaranteed in the playoffs. … Slaton 36, Roosevelt 28.

Panhandle (8-1, 3-1) at Spearman (3-6, 2-2), 7 p.m.
The Panthers are a dangerous team and want to prove it against a gutsy Spearman squad. … Panhandle 39, Spearman 14.
Sanford-Fritch (1-8. 0-4) at Highland Park (3-6, 0-4), 7 p.m.
It’s been a tough year for both teams and this game is for nothing but pride as they get set for basketball season. Give me the Hornets to end the year with a W. … Highland Park 27, Sanford-Fritch 20.

White Deer (4-5, 1-2) at Booker (8-1, 3-0), 7 p.m.
Don’t expect the Kiowas to overlook the Bucks. Chase Nelson will welcome back Julian Barton and Adrian Rosales and that’s bad news for the White Deer secondary. … Booker 62, White Deer 13.
Wildorado (5-3, 2-1) at Boys Ranch (0-9, 0-3), 7 p.m.
You know the Roughriders don’t want to end the season on a winless note so they will be geared up for that. To get a win they will have to shut down Braddek Darnell and that pass first offense. After absorbing a quick blow, the Mustangs run away with this one. … Wildorado 72, Boys Ranch 20.
District 2-1A Division I
Happy (8-1, 3-0) at Nazareth (6-3, 2-1), 7 p.m.
A decades long rivalry match with tons of implications on the line. In this game, anything can and will happen and the Swifts have historically played the Cowboys extremely tough at home. In a tight one in the cold and wind of Castro County, Happy pulls away late. … Happy 42, Nazareth 34.
District 5-1A Division I
Valley (3-6, 2-1) at Petersburg (4-5, 2-1), 7 p.m.
Winner plays next week, and the loser picks up the roundball. The Buffaloes are favored in this one, but the Patriots are playing much better coming down the stretch. If Valley can get their running game going, they should take a close one on the road. … Valley 56, Petersburg 54.
Lorenzo (3-6, 0-3) at Spur (9-0, 3-0), 7:30 p.m.
The Bulldogs are unbeaten for a reason, and they will finish the season without a loss for the first time since 1994. … Spur 60, Lorenzo 6.
District 1-1A Division II
Groom (5-4, 1-1) at Miami (6-3, 1-1), 7 p.m.
Homecoming, senior night, win or go home are all happening in Miami Friday night. The stakes and the atmosphere in this one will be at a fevered pitch and both teams won’t disappoint. The Warriors are playing better than many expected after losing several key pieces. If Miami can keep Greyson Peet in check, they will walk away winners. … Miami 45, Groom 42.
District 2-1A Division II
McLean (4-5, 2-1) at Motley County (9-0, 3-0), 7 p.m.
As crazy as it seems, a Tigers win of 21 or more points gets them in the playoffs. Unfortunately, their opponent is playing extremely well, is at home and is coached by one of the best in Mike Bigham. McLean won’t lay down, but the task is just too tough on the road. … Motley County 54, McLean 22.
