It was another stellar week for the No. 6-ranked West Texas A&M volleyball team as the Lady Buffs defended their home court with sweeps of Cameron and Sul Ross during Lone Star Conference play on Wednesday and Friday at the WTAMU Fieldhouse.
The Lady Buffs took down Cameron in three sets 25-10, 25-16, 25-19, then rolled by Sul Ross with ease 25-19, 25-8, 25-12.
WTAMU is on fire through LSC action staying atop the standings at 12-0. The Lady Buffs also run their win streak to 13 straight, improving to 19-3 overall.
The Lady Buffs hit the road for the final time in the regular season next weekend as they travel south for conference matchups against Texas A&M International and Texas A&M-Kingsville on Friday and Saturday.
Wednesday’s match
WTAMU had no problems against Cameron jumping out to a big lead and never relinquishing momentum.
With the win, the Lady Buffs are an incredible 56-3 all-time against the Aggies, winning the last 10 meetings in the series.
WTAMU finished the night with 51 kills on 112 swings with 15 attack errors to hit .321 as a team with 46 assists, five aces, 62 digs and five blocks. The Aggies registered 24 kills on 109 attempts with 17 errors for an attack percentage of .064 to go along with 17 assists, one ace, 36 digs and five blocks.
Emma Becker sparked the Lady Buffs as the junior had a match-high 13 kills on 22 swings with no attack errors to hit .591 on the night with four digs and a block.
Camy Jones (12) and Hereford graduate Taytum Stow (10) both finished with double-digit kills followed by Amarillo High graduate Currie Marusak with eight to go along with a career-high 10 digs.
Friday’s matchÂ
Like Wednesday, WTAMU dominated Sul Ross on the way to a 13th straight win.
The Lady Buffs are now a perfect 11-0 all-time against Sul Ross State as Friday night marked the first meeting between the two since October 7, 1983.
The Lady Buffs finished the night with 45 kills on 87 attempts with nine errors for a team attack percentage of .414 to go along with 40 assists, six aces, 45 digs and nine blocks. Sul Ross State registered 22 kills on 97 swings with 21 attack errors to hit just .010 as a team with 22 assists, two aces, 27 digs and a pair of blocks.
Marusak continues her superb play on the court with 11 kills on 22 swings with just one attack error to hit .455 on the night with three digs and three blocks. Emma Becker added 10 kills for WT to go along with two blocks and a dig followed by Kaycee Cavanaugh and Camy Jones with six kills each.
Ainsley Malis paced the Lady Buffs offense with 17 assists and four digs while Canyon graduate Bryli Contreras led the way in the back row with 18 digs in the win.
