It was a huge weekend for the No. 9-ranked West Texas A&M Lady Buffs getting a sweep of No. 25 Dallas Baptist followed a sweep of UT Tyler on Friday and Saturday afternoon.
The Lady Buffs made quick work of No. 25 DBU on Friday with a 25-14, 27-25, 25-20 win and then took down UT Tyler on Saturday 27-25, 25-18, 25-21.
WTAMU is playing tremendous volleyball at the moment improving to 15-3 overall and winners of nine straight. The Lady Buffs remain unbeaten in Lone Star Conference play at an impressive 8-0.
WTAMU returns home with LSC matchups against St. Edward’s and St. Mary’s on Friday and Saturday.
The Lady Buffs dominated the Patriots on Friday behind a strong offensive performance totaling 49 kills on 102 swings with just eight errors for an attack percentage of .402 to go along with 39 assists, four aces, 46 digs and four blocks.
The Patriots registered 35 kills on 105 attempts with 16 errors to hit .181 in the match with 29 assists, five aces, 43 digs and two blocks.
Kaycee Cavanaugh had a team-high 13 aces with six digs and a block. Amarillo High graduate Currie Marusak added 12 kills and Canyon graduate Bryli Contreras led the way in the back row with 11 digs.
Reigning LSC Player of the Year Delaney Fuller had 11 kills on 34 swings with four attack errors to hit .206 for the Patriots to go along with eight digs, Aryn Walton registered a match-high 28 assists while Daylee Doggett had 12 digs for DBU.
On Saturday, WTAMU moved to 8-3 all-time against UT Tyler with another convincing effort.
Camy Jones was the catalyst in the victory knocking down 13 kills on 30 swings and added five blocks. Marusak continued to impress with 10 kills, Ainsley Malis dished out 20 assists and Contreras was her normal defensive self, leading the team with 29 digs.
The Lady Buffs finished the afternoon with 43 kills on 132 swings with 15 attack errors to hit .212 as a team with 39 assists, six aces, 60 digs and 13 blocks in the win.
